Anyone seen any comparisons of Detroit with Port Huron(?). I think that's the city on the Canadian side opposite Detroit. Might be a fruitful comparison of social differences. I know Niagara Falls, Canada, is not as deteriorated as Niagara Falls, USA.

There are many reasons why Detroit ended up the way it has.
I don't believe the obviously racist claptrap that accompanied the pictures, and I was born here and lived here almost exclusively until the 1970s.

Detroit's political infighting between blacks could have been done all by whites, New Yorkers, Venezuelans, Italians, Russians etc.

What is sad is that the same greediness and lack of civic pride that destroyed the city still exists and is living well.

The city will never recover, because too many people look for small bits of low-hanging fruit and short-term advantage. There is no long-term plan.

I drive through this every day. I have for almost 6 years. It never changes.

Only the names of the people calling each other names are different...

my guess is most if not all of em have asbestos in em,and it would cost 5 times what the building is worth to get rid of it,so just let it go to the city to deal with.
