Cash For Clunkers Passes House...

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/09/house-passes-cash-for-clunkers-legislation/#comments

Oh man, !

Only cars made after 1985 are allowed, which is right at the start of the W124.

There go all my cheap parts from the junkyard...

So many awesome 300Es, 400E and even 500Es will be crushed. No chance of getting to the salvage yard even...

Motherfrakkers!

Sucks. So you buy a car that gets 12mpg, complain about the price of gas, and now the government says no problem I'll take that off your hands for $4500.

What a shame. I wonder how many people will use it?

Cars must be crushed or shredded? What an enormous waste.

Sounds good to me though I'm not sure why they have to be model year 1984 or newer. It should apply to all clunkers.

I read that the current vehicle must get 18 mpg or less.

Won't be too many M/B's in that category...........certainly none of the diesels.

Our diesel's are safe. Whew

Wonder if the 18mpg is rated or actual?

Even with the 18mpg clause, this is just so nonsensical I can't even find the words. You'd think by now we wouldn't be surprised at how unbelievably dumb government agencies can be, but still, I'm in awe. And not the good kind of awe. You can chalk the recession up to bad decisions by banks, automakers, consumers, homebuyers, mortgage companies, etc. But can thank Capitol Hill, the EPA, the CDC, the FDA and all our other fearless "federal regulators" for making damn well sure we can't find a logical or progressive route to a functioning economy.

But I guess we should have some respect ... after all, these are the same insightful establishments that saved us from the Tucker Corporation and Joe Camel.
