280GE....what should I expect?

I'm seriously considering this one....anything I should know before I go and check it out tomorrow? Paint looks to be non-original (Its exactly like the paint that was on the 2004 G) The seats were obviously updated but I don't know if they are proper G seats or not.

Just have to play your cards right and talk them down. New paint= a reduction in price as far as i'm concerned. (Could just be trying to cover up rust, but if you know where to look you can spot it)

So cool! That would be a sweet beach/party wagon! Throw a couple girls in the back with a cooler full of bud, some rods, and your off for a killer day!:D

Girls love open air "Jeeps".

I should get a G, I could use it as a "work" truk too...at least as far as the IRS is concerned.:D

You should expect rust. I believe Europa in Santa Fe was the exclusive importer in 93.

Thats what i'm thinking. I just checked their site and they have it listed at $29,000 :eek::eek:

What a load on nonsense if you ask me:rolleyes: Most small car boutiques like this have that bad habit of really overpricing their cars in the hopes that some rich sap will pay the list price. I'm not surprised considering where its located.

Oh, and its an 84;)

Hatterasguy 06-10-2009 09:26 PM

Its worth like $12k. You can buy newer G500's for what they are asking.

Funny, I plan on offering $10k

Hatterasguy 06-10-2009 09:30 PM

Even better, thats all its worth.

Call back once a month and keep asking if its around, maybe after a few years they will give up and take it.:D

Europa was importing in the mid-80's too. G's are always priced high.

Very true but nearly $30k is just plain crazy when 04's are going for that much. It not like this is a powered convertible either.

Definitely cool! My guess would be they'll end up selling it for much lower. Can't necessarily blame them for taking a shot with the lofty asking ... there are some people out there that might just jump on it because it's fairly rare stateside. I've seen a lot of gray market G's bid up pretty high on eBay ... although I see a lot of them reappear on eBay three weeks later, too! It would be cool if you could get it for a good price ... I love the look of the SWB cabrio! Sporty yet rugged.

For an '84, it is too much. But that car has the same rules as all MBs - check for rust, damage, engine leaks, etc.

Of course.

Is there anything specific on this engine to worry about? I'm quite sure its the same that was in Vipercrazys Euro W123 280CE from the meet last week.

It looks quite easy to work on and he said only only two or three things are difficult to access.

Excellent engine. Probably has rust, or has had rust treated at some stage of it's life. Price is nuts.
