well she was acting defiantly towards law enforcement after numerous similar lawful commands were issued. I have a feeling that the video that is shown does not capture critical moments in the encounter that would allow for one to make an informed judgment call. My feeling is that the media wanted to make the LEO a villain and the citizen an innocent victim for shock value, but like I said, I cant have an informed opinion without seeing the whole encounter.

On another note, view the video about the house being demolished accidentally. Id be LIT!

If she shut her cigarette and Wild Turkey hole and just signed the thing she would have been on her merry way. If she just walked to the back of the truck and signed the ticket she would have been on her merry way. If she stopped trying to walk past the cop and signed the thing she probably would have been on her merry way. I'm not sure there was any good alternative.

Two things:

1. The old lady asked for it and she got it

2. Never stand near passing traffic, many police/people have been struck by distracted drivers in that situation.

True. I can't imagine having trouble with a 72 year old woman though, and I'm half the size of the cop. Both times he pushed her, she went back a good 3 feet. Just manhandle her f'r crissake.
I can only imagine the jokes he must be getting for having to tase an old lady.

People will never learn that it is pointless to argue or vent with the police.

What I do and should work for anybody that has a decent driving history:

1. Stay calm, cooperate and accept the ticket
2. Go to court, get there early and find the policeman who issued the ticket
3. Politely request if he is willing to plead down the ticket to a non-points/lesser fine violation

To date I have been always successful with this strategy, it hurts to be lighter in the wallet but the issue is resolved with minimum impact.

she may have asked for it but come on, tase her? Thats ridiculous. What would have happened if perhaps she had a pacemaker and she died? Cops can wrestle drug dealers and burglars, but he couldnt just slap a couple handcuffs on her and take her jail for refusal to comply and resisting?

Yah especially from the other deputies at muster, the next morning.

True story:

A Judge I used to work for was laughing at an Office of Citizens Complaints report (he had to read plenty of them). Seems some SFPD officers patrolling in a park at night met up with a man that had a doberman with him and the dog growled at the officers. They then clubbed the dog with their nightsticks and arrested its owner. The complaint alleged that the SFPD officirs then were singing "How Much is That Doggie in the Window" and making jokes at the scene about the dog and its owner. :D:D

If she did as for it, why should we care?

Too bad. He warned her that she would be tazered and she still proceeded.

And if a bone is broken, someone would be screaming again. If he somehow got hurt in that traffic?

If I bet you $100 you couldn't push a 72 year old lady down, which one of us is headed to the strip club later on?

Hatterasguy 06-11-2009 07:36 PM

He didn't have to zap her, she was little, just push her down.

I don't really care for tasers, cops seem to like using them to much. But than again I don't like cops.

She acted like a kid.

In that, you are right that I could probably push her down without too much issue. OTOH, like I said, it presents a new problem if she gets hurt and it increases the risk compared to a taser. Either way, she did deserve it.

The taser is a measured shock. By pushing her, he could push too hard and get into other issues. Hell, even with her being belligerent, we have so many supporters for her. Can you imagine a suit where she alleges she was pushed too hard and should have not been pushed as hard? This way, it is the taser with a measured shock.

Me neither.

And like a kid, she got an electrifying moment and learned that she should not do certain things.
