Things to Do/See in San Diego

I'll be taking a business trip to San Diego in the near future and am wondering what I should try to do or see while I'm there. I'm pretty budget concious, but willing to splurge a little if there's something really cool and unique. Ideas?

USS Midway. I have not been on it but next time I visit my dad in Aug I plan on checking it out. Never been on one and the sheer size of it intrigues me.

Balboa park is very nice. The San Diego zoo is really nice. I have been to the zoo and it is very impressive.

Interesting ideas, especially Midway.

I spent some time in San Diego about 12 years ago. At the time the public transportation system was very clean and convenient enough that I almost didn't mind not having a car there at the time. Is it still like that?

BTW, I'm bringing wheels this time.

OH OH OH!!!! I just thought of a MUST SEE. If you are going to be there before the end of August you NEED to go to Laguna Beach and see if you can get tickests to the Pageant of the Masters.

http://foapom.com/site/overview_pom.asp

It is difficult to explain but the locals put this on every year and have been doing so for 50 or 75 yrs (I forgot which anniversary they just had. Anyway, they depict works of art (paintings, sculpture) with real people. They do it in such away that the picture appears 2 dimensional and you are unable to see where the real person is as opposed to the back ground. If the statue is bronze, the person is bronze as well. The dress is identical to the original. There is a live symphony playing the music and a narrator speaking about the piece. The last display is always the last supper.

I know it sounds kind of dorky but I will guarantee that if you see it once you will want to go again. I have been going on a regular basis for over 10 years now. This is the first time we will not go due to school sched.

Tickets are sold out but there are always people trying to sell theirs at the door as you have to buy them nearly a 7 month in advance to be able to go (yes it's that popular.

You can make a day out if it as there are several art festivals in the area (all walking distance) and there are free shuttles through town and parking lots. The art and jewelry is very very high end stuff.

YOU HAVE TO GO SEE THIS!!!! TRUST ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Midway, I went last year and loved it, you could play baseball on the hanger deck.

I stayed at an hotel on Scott street at Point Loma. Their is a place on the water right down the street on Shelter Island Dr. I forget the name but you will see it, if you go down Shelter Island Dr you will see a round about, you have to go either right or left since the water is in front, go left its right their on the water. Their is a big parking lot in front of it. The food and drinks were quite good.

Another good burger dive place down the street is the Boll Weevil.

Let me know the dates you'll be in town and I'll keep my eyes and ears peeled. I can recommend plenty of good places to check out/eat/play/etc.

Boll Weevil closed its doors. BK. There are a few independent places left, but not in the Point Loma/Rosecrans area. Not a bid deal as there are plenty of other great burger places in town.
