Talking My Long, Hard Quest is over... I now have a woody Wagoneer!

After searching off and on for 3 years it finally happened. I have my first Woody Wagoneer!!!

I looked at this Jeep in Tulsa a few weeks ago at a small one man dealership. This was his second time selling it after buying it back from the PO who had it for years. The owners before that completely repainted the car, replaced the faux wood paneling and pulled and "freshened up the motor" (I'm not sure what it entailed). Its a 1989 with 101k original miles.

My test drive in Tulsa left me stranded on the highway (sticking fuel gauge) and the dealer was very apologetic. Also had a few little things like the front passenger door not opening from the inside, and the rear window needs assistance to go all the way down. Good bargaining chip items, and things I can get my feet wet with the new make and chassis. He was asking $4500 for it, a decent deal considering the condition, but above what I had budgeted for one.

I was able to get him to come down quite a bit, and have it delivered to Wichita for free. I just picked it up this afternoon, and I'm absolutely elated. The AC works great, it has a fantastic throaty acceleration, and the stereo is very nice as well.

It is so nice to start with a nice example of a vehicle for a change. Usually I get ones with a long to-do list. I'm also excited for cheaper parts, and using the standard side of my tool kit.

Well done! Looks nice, though I still don't understand the craze with these things. I was half-expecting this to be the hood scoop one

I've always liked the looks of those. They're virtually unchanged since introduction. Personally, I favor the retro-round light look of the late '70's. I'd be willing to bet the parts would swap right onto the newer models!

Its like it has pieces of every style of vehicle between 1940 and 1990 all glued together..... I don't think I could drive one. Its too un-european. Either way, it certainly is in nice shape!

Nice ride, Tyler! I've still got fond memories of my grandfather's and hope to get one someday. I wonder if I could put a rear facing 3rd row in one. Hmmmm...

The pink blanket is also known as the vomit blanket, because they used to get carsick.

No rust.

They don't look like that here in Boston.

Here's a cheap fix for the wheel. You will think this is lame, but trust me, it works well.

And it doesn't cost more than a Momo wheel, like my last Regal did. < when I saw the bill.

Another long quest has come to an end, and the enjoyment stage begins. Uh, probably the repair stage too..... Hey, just like a Mercedes!
Many moons ago I had a 1968 Jeep Wagoneer, round headlights and steel everywhere. 3-on-the-tree with no air conditioning! Tough to drive in Texas summers. Blew a head gasket in Carl's Corner for anybody familiar.
Funny, the biggest cylindered straight 6 I had ever seen. I literally could stand in the engine compartment while replacing the head gasket. Ha!
Sure wish I would have kept that old tank. Had the hand crank rear tail gait window too.....
I look forward to this trucks progress. Oh, and the naming process too, although I imagine Woody will be the default.
Nice job Tyler!

You went from the Excelsior Class to a Ferengi Freighter!!!
