He's going there to try to gain the release of 2 dumb-ass journalist who illegally crossed over into NK territory and then subsequently were sentenced to long prison terms.

I don't see this as an issue or pandering to NK. It's a humanitarian mission, plain and simple.

Just a thought, but can we stop rescuing folks that put themselves into their own predicaments? Journalist in N. Korea and hikers in Iran . . . do we have to expend high level diplomacy to rescue idiots that can't read maps or have a GPS?

Why couldn't Jimmy Carter get this done? Maybe you can explain for the rest of us exactly what Bill Clinton brought to the "mission"? Any explaination as to why he waited until now to work this miracle?

Yeah, send Bill Clinton to pick up two women. Not surprised he was successful.

Bill Clinton is widely respected throughout the world. He got the job done.

Since they got themselves in their, I'd be pretty tempted to let them rot.

Because Jimmy Carter is an old man who has done more than his share of humanitarian work, both domestically and internationally. And if asked, he'd probably would have.

Intelligence, diplomacy, and a shining personality.

Because the time was right.

Al Gore (their boss) asked him if he could do anything.
And weirdo Kim wants a former U.S. president to kiss his a$$. Mission accomplished.

If you were the relative of the two talked out you would appreciate it.

As long as Bill made no promises of what the us govt would do I cannot see any harm in it.

He is a pretty shrewd fellow, I bet they gave him a lot more than he gave them.

The Whitehouse is saying this a private operation. My guess is the company the reporters work for hired Clinton and paid for the trip. The North Koreans have treated it as a State effort. And so have some of the posters to this thread.

Perhaps, but I'd be fairly confidant to say that Hilary and O gave their OK, and perhaps set-up the meeting.
