Your first car

What was your first car?

Love asking this question to people:P

I had a 1989 Chevy celebrity that I drove around for a couple years until it died. We got it from my grandfather who had passed away, leaving a fleet of A-body wagons. I beat the crap out of it, hauling my drums all over the area to play shows with my band. It almost got pushed off a cliff, and we sold it (after engine died) to a guy who made it into a doghouse . Next was a Dodge Stealth that I have had for 7 years now. 30k later, its the most reliable car in the driveway and still runs like it should straight out of the factory. Planned on holding on to it for a while, but finances are gonna force us to sell it soon (posting it on here maybe?). I needed something more practical and easy to work on so then comes the 300SD.

Dad found me a 59 CJ5 when I was 15. It had tin worm issues to the point that important parts would fall off as I bumped along in the woods. Learned to be patient and drive slow. It was replaced by a road worthy 1954 M38A1 (CJ5). Learned to be a freeway obstacle. Was my primary for several years, still have most of it. That was a while back. Now 'friends' tell me I drive like I have a flat tire.

My first car was a 1990 ford econolione. It was a beast as super comfortable to drive. My mom got it almost new and she used to take me to elementary school, middle and high school in it. I got it after they got a newer ford truck. It drove it eberywhere and it was a good car despite being wrecked about five times. I finally sold it last year. I still miss it.

My first car was my 99 Jetta TDI. 6 years and 100,000 miles later I'm still loving it :)

What else? A 1959 Mercedes 220SE sedan. I traded a 350 Honda for it. It was an abandoned project (all the chrome pulled and primer). It had sat in the back of a guys yard where his daughters used to run over top of it from the front to the back. We snuck it home under the cover of darkness ( no plates no inspection) and caught it in gear in the police station parking lot. I was utterly brazen in those days. I rented a garage up the street to store it in and when I opened the garage door and showed my dad, he asked "How did you get it?" I said, "I traded my motorcycle for it." He replied,"You ass." and turned around and walked away. I spent every night that summer working on it and when I finally finished it and had it painted, my dad wanted to borrow it.

1980 VW Dasher wagon. Many quirks, but never left me stranded! I stenciled a sweet "Rush" logo on the rear spoiler above the back window. I saved all summer for a Clarion AM/FM cassette for that car, and as soon as I got it installed, by buddy's parents gave him a top-of-the-line Pioneer deck to go in the Jeep they had given him. 'Doh!

a god awful powder blue on navy blue 1988 ford tempo. such an ugly little thing that i absolutely beat the crap out of. took it in the woods, jumped it all over town, and drove it down the rail road tracks about 1/4 mile on a dare. got me to and from college quite a few times but the brake lines were always going for no reason. with the muffler almost always fallen off you could hear me coming for miles around.

1963 Chevy step side pickup. ex PG&E truck my dad bought at an auction

1979 Olds Cutlass coupe. I loved everything about the car except the weak 260 V8 that put out 110 hp. A buddy had a 70 cutlass and totalled it. I put the 70 350 Olds rocket in my 79 and that car flew and got over 20 mpg on the hiway with the 400 turbo transmission. Being a 70, it had 9:1 compression and no egr. I put the HEI distributer in it.
A great engine, and a fun car.
May it RIP.

'63 Corvair Spyder Monza. I bought it for $50 with my paper route money.

1962 MGA. I think I paid $600 for it in 1973.

Cars last so much longer these days. When I got my MGA, it was an old, worn out car. Now we have a 1998 Honda that will probably continue to run perfectly for many more years.

'59 chevy apache stepside. saved $500 from working on the farm during the summer and the drugstore during the school year. 235 engine lasted 2 weeks.....put in a rebuilt 250. drove it from age 16 to 21. miss her

First car I owned was a flying wedge, 86 Subaru XT turbo. Black. Shared it with my brother. All digital display. The coolest part was a little car in the cluster, right above the steering wheel. On either side were lights. One side, the lights would progressively light as the turbo kicked in. Downside was its general build quality.
