Funny -
I've got "golden heart" on out in the hangar right now.

I'll second that.

I flew many a early trip with “5:15am”.

I like Chet Atkins. His record with Mark Knopfler is good too!

John Mclaughlin!

John McLaughlin, an enormous body of exceptional work but particularly his own albums "My Goals Beyond" in 1971 or 72 and later "Electric Guitarist" in 1978 I think.

Your title question is rhetorical and impossible to answer. Music and ability to play it is a personal and emotional experience - an experience of the moment. Styles of playing change throughout ones lifetime, as do preferences. The same is true for music listening. As mentioned in the article, "The guitar, by its nature, is filled with personality and imperfections that all players share.”

Definitely an acquired taste, but Chris Arp, hands down. Lots of respect for a lot of the other guys (big fan of SRV myself) but in my book Psyopus takes the cake in instrumentation all around...once you can listen to it. Definitely not "chillin'" music.

Yes, many to choose from.
Most people have never heard his finest work, but Frank Zappa played one of the sweetest sounding guitars I've ever heard. He completely dominates his strings. Check out his Zoot Allures LP
Gotta love his satire.
