I was helping a friend today and another friend came to see me.

He looks like he could hurt you even without horns!
Imagine facing off one weighing 1300# wearing razor sharp horns with nothing but a sword and a cloth cape to defend yourself.

If you can grab the nose ring, you have complete control over the bull. But after falling off the ladder, that nose ring is going to be the furthest thing from your mind.

Don't try to milk him.

If I grabbed the nose ring I would be dead for sure, since there is none.

Who the hell told you that? And did you fall for it? Come on now...tell us the story...and how you lived through it.

I have lived with bulls. I have pulled them around by the nose ring. In fact, I still have a ring around here somewhere that came back with a bunch of packages wrapped in freezer paper. Bull meat isn't as good as cow meat, but it is edible.

But you probably weaned/raised them with that ring and probably led them around with a lead rope for some time. Go grab an older one that has a bit of a mean streak in him. Slap a nose ring in him. Grab it and tell us what happened next.

I believe you, that an old bull can withstand any pain from the nose ring and give you holy hell.
Our bulls were fairly young. When they started to get too old for the job, off to the packing plant they went. But no, I didn't train any of the bulls with a rope, but prior owners may have. We didn't raise any bulls from calfs, but bought them full-grown (but still fairly young). |

Cool.
We have a Reg. Black Angus cow/calf op here. (Primarily for the ag exemptions. We do lease land to neighbor ops as well.) So our bulls are either the rotated prize 3, or we lease them. The thing that has always blown my mind is when we go to the stock shows and see those little kids leading around 1300+ lbs by the nose. I can never get over a 4' 6" tall 10 year old 4-H or FFA girl leading around that size of animal as if it was a poodle on a leash.
