Truck tire question...

I need new tires for my Silverado, before the snow fly's.

Anyway I have settled on Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2, lots of good reviews and my friend has them on his Dodge. They are not loud enough to piss you off which is a plus.

My question is should I spend the extra $40 a tire and go with the E load rating? I don't really carry anything that heavy to need it, the regular are rated at 2,200 pounds each.

think this guy had E rated tires? http://www.swapmeetdave.com/Humor/Workshop/Lumber-Car-A.jpg . But seriously I wouldn't get the E rated unless you do alot of heavy loads in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

I don't know what tires were original on your truck, but this is what I ran up against when I bought new tires for my Ford pickemup:

http://www.nittotire.com/assets/safety/Replacing%20Tires%20on%20Light%20Trucks.pdf

Other tire manufacturers have similar warnings. The tire store jockeys are clueless about this.

I bought the P metrics. They weren't cheap.

Say, shouldn't this be in the Tires and Wheels Forum??

Time for the grammar police!!

Snow "Flies" not Fly's. Fly's would mean that a house fly (or a person named Mr/Ms Fly) had declared ownership of something.

Its not Mercedes related.

Anyway I guess I'll go with the regular ones, they have the right load rating.

Yeah, no need for the E rating on that size truck. The tires on my F250 are rated for over 3000# each!

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

On our Yukon I just run the LT tires. We load it pretty heavy for vacation and pull a boat quite a bit. IMO no need for the heavier rating in your case. Besides, your ride quality might suffer.

Yeah I'm worried about ride quality.

The most I figure I will carry is 2k pounds, but thats only around town. Even than my truck would weigh maybe 7k pounds.

I had 8 square of shingles along with some other stuff on it the other day and it did just fine with the old dry rotted Chinese tires on the rear.

I just replaced the two last original tires on my 3/4 ton dodge with cummins....95K miles, mostly towing 5K or more, Michelins. If I had left them on the front I bet I could have gone another 25 k easily. And they have excellent ride and handling. A few summers ago I went out to Jackson hole and drove one day down to Dinosaur national monument. That trip was about five hours of twisting winding roads in the mountains. I spent most of it going about 85 mph.

IMHO don't buy anything but Michelin.

I have superb results with Yokohama Geolandar LT on both my off road vehicles, one of the quietest and smoothest A/T and M/T tires out there.
