Fuel Attendant almost put in gasoline

I pulled up to a full service kwik fill and told the attendant to fill it up with diesel. As I was pulling my wallet out, he grabbed the normal gasoline pump and put it into my fuel door!

He apologized profusely and said he wasn't paying attention.

I'm grateful I didn't end up with a topped off tank of the wrong fuel!

I haven't seen a full serve gas station in 20 years. Do you live in a time warp?

They all are in New Jersey (no self serve by law) and I've seen lots in N.Y. Seen a few in small-town parts of Pa., although not many. I can't think of any in Del.

No I live in Ithaca NY.

When I'm in Jersey all of the gas stations there are full service . I believe it is a state law.

Yep. Fuel prices have traditionally been cheaper there, though, so sometimes it's worth dealing with the attendant. I really had to talk one guy into putting diesel in my Jeep though ... he was rather incredulous.

Diesel nozzle shouldn't fit in a gas filler neck.
There are stations here in PA that still pump for you. I've got one close by. NJ and Oregon are the only 2 states prohibitting self-serve fueling.

That's the law in the state of Oregon, also.

You sure dodged a HUGE bullet on that one. Eternal vigilance needs to be your watchword.

Every so often I do come across a really small diesel nozzle that doesn't look like it would have trouble fitting into a gas filler neck. Personally I hate the things as they pump so damn slowly.

man, that's why i try to avoid that place. that, and the diesel pumps are only at one end of the line. no matter how hard i try to play by the parking lot rules, it always looks like i'm budging in line or going the wrong way down the aisle to get to the diesel pumps. i don't trust the employees there to fill my tank, your story proves me right.

But that's half the reason why I go there

This one lady was giving me the worst look and I rolled off with my shades

That is exactly why I LOVE filling up at truck stops when they're not busy. 25$ worth of Diesel is in my tank in less than, what... 10 seconds? lol

Yes, but the gas nozzle will fit in a diesel filler neck ... which is why full-serve makes me nervous.

A friend of mine pulled into a station just ahead of me a few weeks ago in his Honda Accord. He started pumping before me and I asked how many gallons he had to pump, he said 15 or so. I bet him that I would be able to pump my full 21 gallons faster then he could pump his 15 even though he started ahead of me......I won by a significant margin
