Wow, I never heard of this woman. An amazing thinker that, in another age would have been burned at the stake.

I've always questioned this:

I read about her death a couple of days ago on advocate.com. No mention of her sexuality in this article but she was so radical i guess it goes without saying?

Kinda curious about her sexual history myself. She was a lesbian but that must have come about pretty late in her life/career. I can't imagine a Jesuit college hiring a lesbian theologian in the mid-1960's. Catholic theology was pretty much the exclusive territory of gay theologians in that era.

Unfortunately matters of faith are the single most polarising force known to man....and woman for that matter.

Throughout the centuries other women have expressed their thoughts on this in much clearer, concise words without having recourse to insult and childish paradox.

A great mind has sadly passed. I remember reading about her in some reading in my Lit classes back in high school. The teachers always tried to get some sort of philosophical argument going


On a side note, I enrolled my self in a "Women's Studies" class. According to my friend in the registrar's office I am the only male in the class.

This will warrant a new thread in two weeks time.

I did that my junior year, it was an interesting experience. The teacher makes all the difference...mine was pretty radical and somehow found a reference to a penis in just about everything. It was an interesting class though, feminist thought generally gets a really bad rep from those who don't know much about it.

I did the same and I was also the only male in the class. Took a while for them to realize I was not in there to get laid. Anyway, after a while they realized I was serious and we had some great discussions. We did not always agree and there were times where I enjoyed playing the devils advocate but all in all, I think we learned from each other and it was definitely a worth while experience.

I do remember one argument about advertising. They argued about all the clothing expectations that advertising placed on women... make up, high heels, tight jeans... etc. They all blamed advertising. I asked why buy it then? No one is holding you up to buy it are they? That did not go over so well till we started to talk about it. Those were good times.
