Warning: May Cause Severe Injury & Affect Hitting Average

Montana Jury Faults Aluminum Bats For Not Having Warning Labels

A jury on Wednesday found that the maker of Louisville Slugger baseball bats failed to adequately warn about the dangers the product can pose, awarding a family $850,000 for the 2003 death of their son in a baseball game.

Let the discussion begin.

I am not going to make a statement on weather or not the judgement was excessive or even reasonable.

Just a question, major league uses wood bats, why do they use aluminum bats in lesser leagues? One would think the ultimate aspiration would be to become major leauge, why "practice" for the majors with different equipment?

Aluminum give you better distance and is lighter. Most people suck at hitting the ball, they need all the help they can get.

Simple economics. Lower levels cannot afford to keep replacing wooden bats that break. Metal bats last way longer.

What kid would read a label? Would he have not played ball if he read the label? You can get killed by a wild pitch, you don't need a bat for that to happen. Sad but no fault of the bat company.

I agree. Pitchers need to be labeled.

We’re waiting for the day we have to put warning stickers on our airplane propellers:

“When this propeller is spinning. Walking into it may cause severe bodily harm or even death.”

Something tells me, with this kind of BS going on, that day isn’t too far off.

my little brother uses a bamboo bat. He's broken enough wooden bats and cracked or severely dented the aluminum bats enough

If it is on the prop, how do I read it while it is moving?

Gotta put a "Don't read the sign" on the prop. Someone will walk up to it and go "Don't read th................."

I despair for the future of our country.

My wife has a hair dryer that actually says "do not use in shower" and "do not use while sleeping".

We can do without these people; the gene pool needs a little chlorine every now and then.

Unless stated otherwise, any question I ask is about my greymarket 1985 380SEL.

Well... I don't think they intend for the sign on the bat to be read while it's being swung.

X2

Somewhere out there are extension ladders with stickers that say: “Do not place on frozen cow manure.” because some farmer did so to sweep the snow off his barns roof. Then, in the spring went to climb back up and the ladder fell over and he broke his arm.

Labels are never proactive, someone ate it in the shower and a subsequent lawsuit was the cause of said label.

What about people who can't read? Something's got to protect them.

I think , if I was the Louisville Slugger Co, that I would simply refuse to sell bats in that state, with the reasoning that litigation costs are too high there.
Which is a nice way of saying "man those people are stupid"
