Complete torture of a w124 wagon.

I know at least 90% of you have seen this but what do you think of it? It's the 5th gear video of them torturing a 90? w124 wagon. I personally think some of the tests they did were stupid, but thought it was pretty interesting. The whole her driving on the belgian parvay was really cool I thought and would be pretty fun. The driving it in deep water thing was VERY cool/interesting and makes me want to go pick up a w124 again lol Even the ending was stunning. Everyone on the comments is like "YOU KILLED A MERCEDES" and "THAT'S SO HORRIBLE, SUCH A HORRIBLE VIDEO, I HATE THIS SHOW NOW" But I mean they did what they said they were going to do which was see how much abuse the car could take.

And it goes to show it's a great car! If it were me I would like to see how it did on the belgian parvay for a longer time on it, probably a few days of straight driving. But IMHO I think it was a cool video and fun/interesting to watch. Even if you've seen it, it's still a cool vid to watch again :)

I thought those tests were pretty cool for the most part. The baseball bat was stupid, as was the fake cannon test.

Those youtubers really need to get a life though.

so, ya, if you hit a car with a bat, it will dent. Morons

and yes, most cars don't do well with water.

oh, and monster trucks generally crush cars. its a rule of thumb

Yeah the bb bat was stupid but I loved the belgian parvay, water and the engine test. Very cool!

I wish I could do that to a car lol and see how long it will last. :( I'd like to see how the 220 would do on the belgian parvay haha

The British, with their uniformly crap/nonexistent good cars, (even RR and Jag now owned by foreigners) have no respect for German cars, they are indifferent to them for the most part, I have found.

Even Clarkson scoffs at the new Mercedes Benz models: "Their Sat Nav systems all come from the factory, programmed to go to Poland":P

I wonder what the VIN was on that wagon, that way we know its "name"

GregoryV022 11-05-2009 02:01 AM

the belgian parvay was the only thing i like about that show. its a legitimate test

It's like those videos of people destroying xboxes, wiis, and other highly advertised items.

This however hit home for the first time :(

From the engine clips, it seems to be a 230TE.

Still, a huge waste. But it confirmed (strengthened) the notion that our cars are tough little machines.

The guy that made the video cut off a few parts from when the car was in water. While she is sitting there floating talking about random crap both rear passenger windows go down by themselves. Then while she is trying to get out of the car via the open sunroof it starts closing on her (The Mercedes must want to try some torture tests on her for revenge lol). Many people on the full video would comment about the windows going down by themselves in a water situation and how they wondered if it was a feature Mercedes put in there in a water emergency situation. Having owned a 300E I read all about the w124 chassis and all it's safety features but never read about something like that, so I'm thinking it was just a fluke of the window electrics? Although I thought it was rather funny how the sunroof tried closing on her while she was going out through it :P
