How to dissemble sunroof if motor dead?
So it looks like the motor is totally dead on my 260E now. It would struggle to move so I left it alone until I was ready to push it wide open ready for repair, but it does not want to move now.
In the FSM it states the first step is removing the screws at the front of the sunroof...but of course I can't access them with the sunroof being closed. Some of my plastic rails are broken so only one side went up (that is the reason for the rebuild...but I guess the motor is now included in that. I checked the fuse too). Any ideas how to approach this?

Around here there is an excellent write up by BABYMOG about replacing the headliner, do a search.
I got it: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=248784&highlight=headliner You can remove the rear of the headliner without opening the roof, so I am sure that after that you should be able to sort it out. Good luck

Is there some reason not to use a ratchet an manually turn the sunroof drive to partially open the sunroof?

The older models ( W123, and W126, and maybe others) had a provision on the motor that allowed the use of the lug wrench to turn the mechanism and open/ close the roof. The procedure was described in the owner's manual. I do not know if the newer models were similarly designed. Does your Owner's manual address the issue?
