Mystery solved
Looks like it's a "Fairytale" Pumpkin.
http://www.allaboutpumpkins.com/varieties.html#fairytale This is an old time pumpkin from France. It is deeply ribbed and has a very smooth hard surface. It is dark green in color when immature, and as it cures it turns a gorgeous deep mohagony. It is fine grained and well suited for pies. It's true name is: Musque De Provence. |

I have never seen one like that, but we grow Jarrahdale pumpkins that turn a neat mottled slate grey/green when ripe. There's lots of variety in squash, that's for sure.
