Saab deal falls through
I just saw an news piece that said Koenigsegg Automotive has backed out of the deal to buy Saab from GM. That doesn't sound like good news for the future of the brand.

Someone forgot to tell Koenigsegg about the benefits of having the ignition key go in the floor!

Saab died a long time ago once they became rebranded GM cars.

I had a 89 900turbo that I drove for about 300k miles. I don't know much about the GM era cars. I did manage to brake the ignition once by getting a coin stuck under the key when I turned it.

I had an '88 and '91 Saab 900S. Both were good cars. Dad had a a few, last one was an '86 9000t. He had Toyota-like reliability, odd esp. since '86 was the first model year.
My brother had a '95 900, total pos, was covered under the lemon law. I drove some other GM-era Saabs. Horrible.

I love Saabs. My mom has a turbo wagon. That thing is fun to sit in!
GM is a failed endeavor all around. I'll never buy or own a product from them.

I had a seventy four and an eighty ninty nine. They were really fast for what they were in their day, My seventy four weighed about twentyseven hundred pounds and had a hundred twenty horsepower. It had really excellent performance.
They had weak points though....tranny was a little weak and some of the electricals. After my saab adventure I went back to german cars.

Got ya beat...
1966 Saab 96 Rallye (3 cyl 2 cycle 3 on the tree) and a 68 99 Wagon (3 cyl 2 cycle 3 on the Tree).
Last Saab I drove felt like a Mistu, drove like an Opel but shed tranny parts just like a GM... |

yes, saabs were definitely unique. GM sure killed that. drove my friend's '90? turbo hatchback once. very fast, handled well, fun. and the aforementioned quirks, including the odd (?) placement of the engine (or was it the firing order, rotation?) seemed ok to me.
remember, in the teens and twenties and even up to the war (wwII) there were many small car companies with a wonderful array of products. for whatever reason - economies of scale comes to mind - we ended up with the big 3 (oh, and AMC, which was ...five? companies, maybe? nash rambler, studebaker, jeep etc.) (i understand that the swedish government has absolutely no interest in being a white knight. )
