I love the quote, ""I was really torn," Froehlich told Express. "After all this was about the car of a horrible mass murderer."

WHO CARES! The car is a museum piece. It would do better in the Mercedes Museum.

Hitler had a fleet of bullet proof Mercedes, one is in Canada.

He was also a big fan of Mercedes. These days thats something Mercedes would rather not advertise, but he was an enthusiast.

At this point its a part of history and should be saved for future generations.

Political correctness strikes again.

When we castrated the West Germans after WW2, this was the long-term result. Now we are stuck with not having them as an ally if needed.

If you call a German a Nazi for some reason now, he will get mad at you, maybe yell, but he'll never throw a punch.... that would be unseemly.

All those years in obedience school have taken their toll.

Have another beer, some pomfritz with mayo and chill.....

twenty five years ago there was a closed mercedes in camo paint in the Gilmore museum near Kalamazoo. I have a picture of it somewhere. It was in unrestored condition but looked as if it might have well been in driving condition. The one inch or so thick glass had bullet holes from the inside where it had taken shots through an open window and they had hit on the inside of the other side of the car.

I looked on their website recently and they don't seem to have it any more.

From what I have read recently it would be worth a lot.

Road & Track or Car & Driver had an article about a Mercedes German staff car in the late 80's. I think it was about the time one of the Bugatti Royales fetches over 10 mil. A big sum for a car back then, well even today. Anyways, they had a story about an ultra rare armoured MB German Staff car that was suppose to be located in Russia. It was the story of if this car existed and how many bribes to get to it and how many bribes to get it out of Russia. This was a common story for just about anything getting out of Russia, especially WW2 aircraft. Well they did manage to get the car out and to the US. They were expecting around 2 to 5 mil for the car. Nobody wanted it as it had the stigma of Hitler attached to it. I think it was valued at $700,000. A big loss to them

Five of these cars were built, three of which are known to survive today. The first example was built for Nazi Herman Goering; it was the only one built to bulletproof standards. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz was building a 540K Special Roadster for Goering. When both cars were completed, Goering chose the Mercedes-Benz, primarily because it featured bulletproof doors and door glass, while the Horch featured only a bulletproof windshield. http://www.rmauctions.com/Restorations/Awards.cfm?CarID=37&AwardID=&fc=0#

Indeed. You will be hard pressed to find a German firm that even mentions the period 1933 to 45 in it's history. I notice this particular car seems to be missing it's star as well. No way one of these cars will ever end up back in the Mercedes Museum.

I remember KolbenSchmidt (KS) did mention that they developed hyperutectic pistons about 1936 or 37. These did go into the Diameler engine of the Me-109. I don't remember or think they mentioned what engine or aircraft specifically, their pistons were used. The hood star is missing, but there is a star emblem on the radiator.

I don't understand why these cars arn't worth more then they are. As a car enthusiast, and a histry buff, I love the idea of seeing one of these cars. I would love to see it restored and at pebbel beach... I don't understnad why the car gets blamed for its owners actions.

Kim Jong Il is also a horrable human being, but he loves his mercedes.

I also collect old rifles, and if you find a K98 with no russian marking, meanig it was a take home from a GI then its worth a lot more. or if you can get an Arisaka with the emperors mum still intact, its also worth a lot more. these are weapons that killed people... but they hold a significant place in history, even though they were in the hands of the "bad guys" why whould their cars also not hold historical value?

I'd love to own a North Korean Benz.
