A special thanks

to Powerpig for helping me install windows 7. This install was probably the worst upgrade either of use have ever gone through. Lets just say its taken since.... Saturday until today to get it somewhat back to normal.

Also to Justin aka iWrock for helping me out with drivers and getting my programs back.

Wow, after hearing that I'm not upgrading. I'll just wait until I buy a new computer.

Most of my "windows" associates are still using XP.

I'm in industrial controls: PLC's, machine automation, closed loop control, HMI/SCADA...

...We'll move to windows 7 in about 10-20 years...maybe.

This was a rough one. I'm not giving up on recovering the files yet.

I bet that's why they tell you to back up your files first.

Yep.

I throw everything on a portable hard drive (or my network server) and then wipe the PC and reinstall.

I installed Windows 7 last week, took me 23 minutes or so....including wiping the drive. Lost 0 files.

My brother's at-home-supercomputer (he does animation rendering, so I built him a latest and greatest PC, then overclocked it).....took less than 15 minutes to fully install Windows 7. Not bad!

Don't I recall telling you to buy a portable hard drive to copy all of your files to first? If you didn't....then....Epic Fail.

Sort of tough to do remotely. The backup was corrupt. My fault. Files have been recovered successfully.

I did my Windows 7 upgrade clean as well.

I made sure I had everything backuped. I'm still recovering. If I took a whole day to put it all back together i'd be done with it.

Good luck. It's honestly worth all of the work you put into it.

What were you guys upgrading from? Windows 95??

I upgraded from Vista and it took an hour or so and no files were lost. It was the easiest and cleanest upgrade I have ever done. I started the upgrade and came back an hour or so later and viola! There it was!! I didn't have to do a thing.
