Who is copying whom?

The VW is quite close to the Hi Lux and Fortuner from Toyota which has been running for the last five years.

Cars and trucks seem to look more and more alike all the time.

Gurkha 12-02-2009 04:00 AM

True but Toyota Hi Lux is a older established design.

OK, lets hear all the German-bashing now. They must be just like the Koreans!

Seriously, cars tend to follow certain lines, and the shapes evolve over time with all companies copying sucessful ones. It is not a cause to bash any Country's lack of creativity.

Gurkha 12-02-2009 06:14 AM

German bashing??? Hardly in lieu of open season on Japanese, its time for some payback and yes, VW blatantly copied the Hi Lux look, no doubt about that. Would that bring VW up to class with the Hi Lux or Toyota, I seriously doubt it. I don't even really consider VW German in any sense, just name branding and yes, I am an ex highly unfortunate and dissatisfied owner of the Golf GTi 16V.

They don't look that much alike to me. About the only one of those that does not look like that is the old Subaru pickup which sets a lot lower, they are all suv takeoffs, so they all look about a like.

Gurkha 12-02-2009 06:28 AM

The Honda Pilot, Toyota Tacoma, GMC and Ford offerings all look different.

Who cares who is copying who.

If a design works then it should be used elsewhere. This isn't highschool anymore where god forbid you copied your homework.

Don't get me started on the joke of software patents.

Go point, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that...

I just don't care what trucks looks like, they are only good for carrying around crap that won't fit in a car.

While not exactly the stuff of advertising copy, that is the essence of a truck.
"Buy our truck for all the crap that won't fit in your Prius." I don't see them lining up on Madison Avenue for that line.

True, I decided a long time ago that I don't need to own a truck; it's cheaper for me to pay to have the occasional item delivered or moved than to have the cost of owning one. People around here tend to use them as cars, I don't know how they can stand driving them all the time.

It a different gene. You don't have it.
The best truck is the one your friend owns.
