Mouse Miles
Yet Another Way to Measure Computer Usage
How about, starting January 1, 2010, we all have a "1000 Mouse Rallye" . . . the Mille Miglia Mouse. |
Orthopedic surgeons will find this useful. What if you use a tracker ball like I do?

I hate using a mouse, I'm so used to using the trackpad on my laptop I find them clunky.

Last week I got Apple's new "Magic Mouse" which has a multi-touch top surface. Apple's "rodent" designs of the past aren't great, but this one is actually pretty cool. Teamed up with 3rd pty software, it recognizes multiple finger swipes and taps like a Mac laptop trackpad.

Snow Leopard's mouse controls are limited, so the freeware "Better Touch Tools" fills in what should have been part of the OS. Four and five finger taps are now supported.

I wonder, will Microsoft give me a high mileage badge if my mouse reaches a certain mileage?:D

That program does not track distance accurately at all, I verified it with my mouse. It all depends on your mouse speed calibration. I have mine set very high, so a mere twitch gets me most of the way across my 20" display, and the program measured it as several inches on mouse movement. I'd say on my system that program thinks about 1" of actual mouse movement is approx. 8-9 inches.

Dusting off this thread since I now have an Apple Magic Trackpad for the desktop and wondering whether to retire the Magic Mouse. I've just about mastered the scrolling options on the pad and it's getting very intuitive. I will say that the mouse still feels more precise in photo editing. Is anyone using both?
