Cool - at the risk of starting another oil thread (actually, you started it, so it would be your fault) do you mind telling us what kind of oil you used? Dino or synthetic?

I would highly bet that it is synthetic....dino oil breaks down long before that.

Is this stock filtration? Bypass filter? Driving habits?

We love details!

Sorry about the report going away, can't redact the personal data without making the file huge.

The facts are that the car (a 2005 Ford Escape V6) is running Mobile One, WIX filters. Vehicle was bought with 38,168 miles, we took samples at 43734mi, 46600mi, 50419mi and changed at 55411mi. Only make up oil was added for loss from collecting samples and at filter changes at 46600mi and 50419mi.

Not sure of exact driving habits but know for sure there is a bi-weekly 200+mi highway run. Other driving is basically around town.

Neat, you outta do that with a diesel, I'm curious. I'm not a chemist, but I didn't see any mention of oil breakdown in the report. Are you measuring that/visually checking for sludge build-up?

The bottom panel shows viscosity, etc. Haven't opened it up for to look for sludge yet. Probably do that at whatever interval is recommended for a timing belt change.

I do this as SOP on my 2003 Dodge with the Cummins engine, with a filter change at the half-way mark. I use Amsoil series 3000 5/30. Samples show soot levels less that 1/10 of 1% with the oil nowhere near the end of its service life.

Serious question:....Wouldn't is cost less & be less hassle to just do an oil change than getting all these reports?
