just my luck
I am trying to go out tonight go do my final photography project shot and my camera will not turn on at all. Charged batter, all three of them. Swapped them out and removed the grip and put it in without a grip. Nothing.. will not fire up.
The project is due this week! It was working fine at the gtg then it just shut off and would not turn back on. I figured dead batteries so I just put it away. Its always been kept dry and resides in a nice camera bag. Im totally screwed even if it has to be shipped out to Canon to be repaired. I am going to hit the camera shop tomorr.... just remebered they are closed on mondays.. USELESSS!!!!

IMHO digital cameras are either super reliable or quite unreliable.....its always one or the other. And they seem to like to do the fail without reason or warning thing.
I will admit that in my experiences I have come across a lot more malfunctioning Canon's and Kodak units than any other brand...... Does your camera have a small lithium cell in it to "Save settings" etc? Try removing that for a little while too.....maybe that would fully reset it.

no idea.. its a DSLR so its not a simple point and shoot type deal.
If I have to ill frigin whip out my Spotmatic and just use film for a digital project

Best of luck, I know how this sort of thing feels. I'd been working on a school project for a while and hadn't backed it up for a good two weeks. The day before its due my laptop decides that it doesn't want to boot. Thankfully a little persuasion (And my fist) got it to somehow work again. It was a very tense 15 or so minutes.
I'm sure you'll figure out how to fix it but if worse comes to worse can you borrow someone elses camera?

Look at it like a Mercedes and you'll find a logical answer (Although I wouldn't try fixing it yourself, electronics are best left to the pros)
Its a digital camera and you said it was TAKING the pictures just fine not too long ago. Then it started LOOSING the pictures. Does this camera have a detachable storage drive/card?

no dude.. i was referencing how my pile of **** laptop failed to upgrade to vista and I lost everything in that process and now I lose my camera

Have you tried removing the CF card, cleaning the contacts and re-installing? Or, just remove the CF and try powering the camera up without it.

^^^ I would try this.The camera should power on and say "No Card" in the display window.
If it does not, then the circuit board is shot. I had that happen on my first Canon, granted it was a Powershot 200 PnS, but the symptoms are the same. I still rely on film for my "good shots" using my ancient 35mm rangefinders which have nothing electrical or electronic in them. Since you lost your other work on the laptop, I guess you cannot just Photoshop some old work for this project, can you... I send every digital shot I take to Shutterfly and burn them on DVD every six months or so, but then again I am the guy with foil wrapped negatives in the freezer from 1978 :-)

you can probably rent one from the camera place while yours is away. I know of places that rent lenses. I'd lend you my 30D, but I'm nowhere near the camera now.

uses SD so I cant fit anything in there.
something like this shouldn't fail at all. It's defective and im calling canon back and getting my money back effing damn camera. The battery grip was not tight enough for it to depress a small switch that allows the camera to turn on when the battery door is closed. wtf, seriously?
