1,200 limos hired for Copenhagen Climate Change Summit

December 12, 2009 by Trudi Johnson
http://news.limobroker.co.uk/1200-limos-hired-for-copenhagen-climate-change-summit-29360/

Quote:

World leaders gathered together in Copenhagen this week to discuss how best to tackle the problem of climate change. However the pollution caused by the summit was almost as big a talking point as the event itself with over 1,200 limos being hired to ferry officials to the talks.

It has been estimated that the pollution generated by the Copenhagen summit, with individuals arriving by private jet and limo, will have amounted to 40,500 tons of CO2 emissions.

Demand for limousines in Copenhagen has been massive. One of the city’s biggest limo providers said simply, “We haven’t got enough limos in the country.” The limo boss put the situation into perspective saying that on an average day, the company would have 20 limos on the road, during the summit the number was set to rise to 200.

Some limousines have been dispatched as far afield as Germany and Switzerland to transport officials to the climate talks. However when asked how many of the 1,200 limos are electric or hybrid limousines the answer was, just 5.

Despite producing the same amount of pollution as Middlesbrough over the same time period, the summit will aim to right its wrongs by offsetting its carbon footprint. A mass of brick kilns in Bangladesh which are said to be highly polluting, will be replaced by 20 eco-friendly efficient bricks as part of the summit’s offsetting project.

Saving energy is for the uneducated unwashed masses, not the ruling elite. Better get used to it.

The great unwashed masses usually get thoroughly pissed off at such behavior. Nothing turns them away faster than a hypocrite. The Al Gore phenomenon shouldn't be forgotten.

41,000 tones? The earth weighs 5.9742 × 1024 kg .....they still have some catching up to do before they have a real impact.

1,200 limos?.....1.2 million people live in Copenhagen and I bet a lot of them have cars.

I get annoyed when people start making big deals over nothing.

Jon Stewart was pretty funny last night, whether you agree or disagree.
First 6 minutes or so are on Copenhagen.

The big deal is that this is a conference supposedly about saving the planet from MMCC. Yet, all teh limos and all the private planes seem to contradict the alleged message of the conference. Sort of a "do as I say, not as I do" moment...

I guess global warming is a sham and a scam after all. I mean if global warming were a fact the delegates and news people would all be riding bicycles and eating quinoa berries.
And taking their carbon equivalents home with them to buryy in the back yard.

Well, it is sort of a no-win situation. If they had made an issue of using hybrids or something they would have been accused of making a silly gesture.

Some of these people are world leaders, or at least think of themselves as such. In any case security is likely high on their list of things to be concerned about and as such they have transportation needs different from the rest of us.

When I was employed with the big time oil company all of us that the company thought would make tempting targets when overseas traveled this way, and in some parts of the world we used a convoy of several cars so the bad guys would not know which one had the bodyguards and which ones had the target.

Private jets and armoured limos might seem like they would be nice to have, but the fun wears off quick when people start shooting at you.

I never had this happen to me, but it did to others that I worked with, and at least two people I knew had rockets shot at their jets while landing in Angola.

I always found the best thing about having a driver was that I never got lost.

Another window-dressing jerk-fest...the US isn't even involved in any of the negotiations.

I hope the whole lot of them get swallowed up by "Mother Earth" in some spectacular ground-rendering crack that opens up and consumes the whole property where every single one of those crack-heads are seated.

Just make sure "O" isn't near the conference when it happens.

Then, we can sit back and actually see if he gets a clue...
