Video feed from drones hacked

I find it unbelievable that the feeds weren't encrypted in the first place. Jeez.

Feeds hacked

Im guessing the engineers told them about this potential problem before the first one was built. administrators couldnt understand the technology and assumed the enemy wasnt able to either. amazing

"The stolen video feeds also indicate that U.S. adversaries continue to find simple ways of counteracting sophisticated American military technologies."

Vietnam anyone?

"The potential drone vulnerability lies in an unencrypted downlink between the unmanned craft and ground control. The U.S. government has known about the flaw since the U.S. campaign in Bosnia in the 1990s, current and former officials said. But the Pentagon assumed local adversaries wouldn't know how to exploit it, the officials said."

Never underestimate your opponent.

Maybe, but only if you define "now" as sometime within the next 5-10 years.

you would be surprised how quickly the military can put a fix in for an OPSEC issue.

Yup, just like they got those humvees armored right away?

I'm sure they are quite busy trying to decide who is going to draft a request for proposal to update that software.

I wonder how they would do against an enemy that actually has running water?

not really worth commenting to with an attitude like that, but rest assured that we can do very well, esp. when the gloves are removed and we can fight as we trained. Your comments are an insult to everyone wearing the uniform.....

This has nothing to do with military intelligence.

This has to do with trying to prosecute a war ON THE CHEAP.

Encryption costs money and they didn't want to spend it.

Plus the arrogant Air Force figures everyone in the AQ camp is a backward jihadist. Not so.

In a way, it's a short replay of the history of General Motors, where arrogance and greed won out.

Fortunately, there's no adverse effect on the soldiers. The mission may be disrupted if the opposition figured out the signals and could react quickly. Otherwise no harm done to the soldiers, just more frustration

The original Pentagon officers who had the moral courage to bring this to the attention of Secretary Rumsfeld got punished but were admired by their peers.

They are still there, he's just a memory, like a fart in the wind.

Sorry, but if I'm going to be forced to pay for a military I would like to pay for one that actually functions. My "insult" is directed at the folks who make these decisions, not their employees. I don't really care what type of internal politics are involved in stupid decisions, they shouldn't happen.
