2009 E300 Rims for Snows

I just bought a 2009 E300. It came with 245 40 R18 tires. I live in Ontario and would like to put snow tires on it. The dealership wants $3,200..... I would be happy with black steel rims but not sure if I can put 16" rims on it and then snow tires with a higher aspect ratio that would bring it back to the orginal height. The dealership said I can't do that because of the sport suspension - which I don't understand. Any thoughts?

I assume that you will need tire pressure sensors for each rim. Don't forget to factor in that expense.
