Death of my W124

T-boned a Tahoe...his fault.

Took these with the phone cam:

Insurance will total the car, so I'm off to find something to replace my W124.

Will remove the sound system and my 25000km badge...

I have seen worse looking cars on the road. What mechanically is wrong with it?
I would buy it back from the insurance and either fix it up or at lease part it out. She looks like a fine W124 and it is a shame she is going to be a goner...

Body shop I deal with regularly likes the car and wants to save it. We looked at where the doors met the fenders and they were sound. But we opened the hood and saw that the radiator and condenser were damaged, and the front structural frame behind the bumper needs to be replaced. The hood is sprung in about four places, so it can't be banged out. Those costs will well exceed the value of the car, unfortunately.

I'm sure you could find someone parting a 124 that has front end crash parts for less than the car is worth-

is a real shame, but at least you are OK, which I should have said in my previous post.

I would still buy her back and part her out. Or maybe you will get lucky and find one with a good front clip that can serve as a donor.

Dang G, that sucks.

What gets me is that it is a clean car... I saw it 2 years ago, and the interior was clean, as was the body....

I have a front frame that could be welded on, although I'm not sure how safe it would be. It's in my shed right now ... light surface rust but straight and solid. It's only the very nose, not the frame behind the fenders.
I'm not sure what your financial situation is, but if you really like it and can afford to fix it, I would ignore the value of the car. Many of us have spent more than our cars are worth to fix them. I'd rather spend the money to fix a car I know and love than try to find a new one and not be sure how it's going to work out. Plus if you can find a hood and fenders at a junkyard or here, you could cut the cost a lot. You're welcome to my frame, although I'm not sure how to get it to you.
