What's the story behind your forum name?

I find that this question is rarely asked, but when it is I always find interesting stories behind the naming of internet screen names.

Some of you guys have pretty funny names while others are just plain boring. I'm looking at you Craig, JimmyL, and Brian :p !

I love telling my story and I'm guessing a lot of you here probably thought when I first started posting here, "wow what a weird name."

Well here it goes:

Back in 7th grade (almost 8 years ago!) my friend Dan was really into basketball. His older brother Jeff never got along with Dan and the two always fought.

Well one day Dan went around his house with a basketball dribbling and doing faux hoop shots. He was going around screaming, "Look at me! Look at me! Look at these skills I'm a beast!"

His brother Jeff in pure frustration turned around and screamed right back,"All right! You're a ****ing beast!"

And from there my screen name was born! I used it on aim as okyourabeast and for awhile the incorrect form of your was used. To this day I feel really dumb about that and hope to eventually transition to the newer name I have on here.

Wikipedia has a pretty good definition:
Quote:
Swamp Yankee is a colloquialism that has a variety of meanings. Generally, it refers to Yankees or WASPs (northeasterners with colonial ancestry) from rural Rhode Island and nearby eastern Connecticut and southeastern Massachusetts. The term "Yankee" connotes urbane industriousness, while the term "Swamp Yankee" signifies a more countrified, stubborn, independent and less refined subtype.
Essentially a New England hick with agricultural roots. When my family settled here in the 1630's the CT River Valley was THE place to farm which is why we're a bit further west. Although a couple hundred years ago we decided that farming in southern New England could be a ***** and supplying farmers was a better, more reliable alternative to trying to figure out and count on Mother Nature for a living.

I'm going to make it a mission to reclaim the Northeast as Swamp Yankee country from the "Rednecks." Everytime I see a truck with a New England license plate and a "redneck" sticker of some sort I cringe. We're Swamp Yankees dammit!

I wanted to have a cyber name like "ThePan", (from the movie Hook), but never available, so one site suggested meltedpanda, and I thought, heck, it has PAN in it, and so it came to be.
No reason, no logic

The subject pops up every now and then. Still interesting to see how some of the new folks come up with their names though.

Here's hoping that you are sitting on it more than just a few times per year.

Mine came from my beloved dog, Sundance. I would frequently call him sunedog (pronounced "sunny dog"). His mom was a pure bred Irish Setter and his dad was a pure bred Golden Retriver. So he was a pure bred mutt.
