But Wait, There's More - bad news for Toyota that is

Federal officials review Toyota Corolla complaints

The Associated Press
Tuesday, February 9, 2010; 11:54 AM

WASHINGTON -- Federal safety officials say they will look into complaints from Toyota Corolla drivers about difficulty with the steering on their vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received about 80 complaints from drivers of 2009 and 2010 Corollas. Many say their cars can wander when they drive on the highway, making it hard to stay in lanes.
NHTSA says it will determine if a formal safety investigation is warranted. But agency officials also stress that it is standard procedure to review the tens of thousands of driver complaints they get every year on a wide range of vehicles.
Toyota's safety issues are under intense scrutiny due to recalls over gas pedal problems. The company also recalled some of its Prius hybrids last night.

What happened? The 'Old Man' retired and his grandson is slacking off in the safety areas?

This is killing their reputation.

Yeah seriously. It could be anything. Considering they sold millionS of those...
Looks more and more like some agenda behind it all. Those parts were made in the US. And it's all being blown way out of proportion. They're all corrupt. Not just Toyota.

I was Napa today when a Toyota service manage called asking for "alot of hacksaw blades"...

said they were needed for "cutting off the gas pedals".... you can imagine the whole store making jokes about this for the next ten minutes.

Given the corporate slogan, there really is no mention about brakes . . .

Our Toyota truck revs its engine sometimes by itself, like a ghost is stepping on the gas pedal for a few seconds. I always figured it had to do with emissions, but maybe they have an inherent design issue that goes way back.

Maybe not. Isn't the Chevy Cobalt having a similar electric power steering issue? Wonder if they use the same parts supplier for the same components.

My W126 follows lines on the concrete really bad with my snow tires......

Sounds like toy-o-ta is finally having some quality issues. Also sounds like there might be a bunch of complainers out there. Difficulty steering? Probably fat people, they are too wedged against the steering wheel to steer properly.

Hah.. it's because of them that supposed economy cars like the Corolla have gotten so overweight and overbig.

This whole steering thing reminds me of the first Consumer Reports test of the late-70's Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon. Apparently their testing regimen involved running a car up to 50 mph, turning the steering wheel a quarter-turn to the right, then letting go of the wheel to see what happens. During this test, the Omnirizon developed a form of oscillation that caused the car to swerve back-and-forth repeatedly, not unlike a skier working a slalom. Chrysler did everything but piss blood when this anomaly was publicized, but eventually installed a lighter steering wheel and a steering damper on later models which eliminated this problem.
