As a resident of Chicago and a former W210 owner, I have one word for you.

Rust.

The Chicago area uses an excessive amount of salt and with winter tires you know it wasn't garaged when the snow fell. My W210 was rusting away right before my very eyes.

Buyer beware.

As a past owner of a Chicago w123, I can 100% agree - Chicago cars are rusty cars.

My sister's W201 was in Chicago for a while in its past....and it has virtually no rust. Must have not been out much in winter. Though it does have 200k on it, so they obviously drove it quite a lot.

Wouldn't it be easiest to avoid "itchy trigger finger" if you just avoided cruising car listings? That is what I do....

Actually my 2004 never gave me any problems other than a $50.00 heater valve. I sold it for other reasons primarily, and fear of crap breaking secondarily. :D

My father owns one of those...great car and surprisingly dependable! :)

They are great cars but that one is probably quite rusty underneath.
