Very Fast Police Cars, Very Fast

And this one is probably one of the slowest

The US ones are so embarassing.

There's a few hybrid police cars running amok around here.. I had to tailgate one just to make sure I could laugh or not... It's hilarious.

I know that when European police were driving VW Golf's, our guys were driving Crown Vics w/ V8's. And although Italy might have a few Lamborghini police cars, ALL of our cops either have Crown vics or Mid-size sedans...no tiny cars in our police force....

...I'm not sure thats a good thing though =)

Some of the US cars are Ford Mustangs or Chevy Cameros. Also, I think in Nevada they have a few Porsche 962 (?). They used to use Superbirds.
I remeber a story from a little town in Colorada I went to college. It was the mid 80's. They had one of the new Ford Mustang cop version. There is Raton Pass. It is very step. Anyways, the Mustang pulls up next to a new Porcshe 911 turbo. He gives the guy the signal to see what it would do. They were up to 150 mph. At the limit of the Mustang. The cop gives the signal to slow it down. The Porsche just punches it and disappears. The cop just radios ahead to close down the pass. Its hard to beat Motorolla.

Yeah, it reminds me why I love to watch movies set in modern day Europe (Davinci Code, Bourne movies, etc.) I love watching police and such flying around in full size Benz's and BMW's.

You can outrun the police car, but you can't outrun the bullet, the helicopter, the radio or the dog.

Cool car, but...

Not much faster than that car can go and that high profile light bar isn’t going to stay with it for long.

A lot of the PD in KY are going with the flat top roof with lights inside. Rest are getting the very low profile LED lights. Not sure about outrunning a Helio. I'm sure someone here can give us a reasonable top speed for a police grade unit. In Ky we don't have straight enough (or smooth enough) roads for super speeds (although idiots try from time to time). Out west may be a different matter. Radio is still faster, but the guy on the other end has to respond fast.
Cop I knew in Cincy told story of his buddy working Radar late one night on I-71. He had just got into position and was sipping on his coffee (really!) when he head it coming. Turbo Porsche went flying by and radar lit up 135. He looked at his fresh cup of coffee and decided just to get on the radio. They caught the guy a few miles up the road. Smart cop.

my dad used to know a guy who played golf with the most bent up, beat up set of golf clubs you've ever seen. he'd give most anyone a run for their money any given day of the week. same for drivers. owning a Porsche and knowing how to DRIVE a Porsche are two different things. lots of playboys own Porsches. big deal. here's a book about a guy who could take a car and make it talk......

If our local police force bought a $100k toy car I would get elected and cut their budget out of spite. Talk about a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Stratford's police just sucked off the government tit to the tune of $300k+ or so to buy a tricked out boat for "home land security". Has all the toys on it including XM radio. I feel safer already.

don't you know that boat was necessary for your health, welfare and safety?
especially that XM satellite radio so they can dial in their favorite music
stations while writing up a $500 "infraction" ticket.

Oh yeah, I feel much safer...I mean they couldn't patrol in an off the shelf Whaler for $60k...no they wouldn't look as cool.
