Mercedes 240D as cemetery monument

Yup, at Linden Park Cemetery in Union County, New Jersey, a guy's monument is a full size 240D (1979?) made of a single block of stone quarried at the Rock of Ages quarry in Graniteville , Vermont. The craftsmen probably drove a real Mercedes into their shop to use as a model. The granite version may have taken over a year to chisel. It's an exact replica. The guy's mausoleum and the Mercedes take up forty cemetery plots. (approx cost $500K in the 70's)

It looks like the real thing ! Perhaps some diesel fan in New Jeresy can take some pics??

This car comes up from time to time. Looks like the last time it came up on the forum was in 2006.

Stone version probably does about the same speed as the real thing
...if you're on a bit of a budget you could go for the Ghanan coffin... (I like the windscreen wiper detail but not sure those wheel arch trims are factory...)

Too bad he didn't own a euro. Those headlights and bumpers don't look easy to replace.

Here is an article about it. It says they left the hood start and sideviews off because it would be too easy for vandals to steal.

They made a 240 limo? I remember seeing a 300D limo on craigslist a while back. I still have a picture of it somewhere. I think the 300D limo was refered to as a "Lang" and they were all euro's outfitted a specific way (or something).

Edit: Here it is. A 300D "Lang" on page 2 post 19.
