Bristol cars

Saw the film, An Education, over the weekend. Had one of these Bristol cars in it. Very cool. I'd never seen one before. The film was good.

Yes. Saw it in a theater.
Not aware of the connection between Bristol and Cobra. The Bristol seems to have some design relationship to the Jaguar E-Type.

Cobra was based on the AC Ace, IIRC.

In looking at my Standard catalog of Imported Cars, that appears to be a 1956 type 405 Saloon. Looks like it had a 120 cid straight 6 of 100- 125 HP and a 4 speed tranny, electric O/D was standard, as were the leather, reclining seats. WOW!, in 1956!
Pretty impressive.

Ms that was my fault. I had posted AC and Bristol had a relation but then deleted the post . AC was powered by a Bristol motor for awhile I believe but didn't figure it was worth the discussion.

The bristol, I believe had an aviation connection. The bristol motor was based on a prewar BMW motor design. Later bristols had chrysler corp v8s and were quite fast. They also had aluminum bodies.

You are correct, sir.

The official name of the company until 1961 was, Bristol Aeroplane Company, Ltd, Filton, Bristol, England. After that it became Bristol Cars, Ltd, Filton, Bristol, England.

The 405 model body was aluminum alloy panels on steel and laminated ash frame. ( Do you think electrolysis might be a problem?)
