Got to shoot a BAR today!

Being a big WW2 buff I had a very good day today. I was at the range with my friend and we were shooting away, their was hardly anyone their. Than out of the corner of my eye I see someone pull a BAR out of the case!:D Sadly it was not a full auto WW2 vintage one, but one of these:

He let me fire off a couple of rounds and it was great, that thing is a tank. It weighs a ton, kicks good, fires the big old 30-06, and can cut down trees.:D

Now I want a BAR bad, I'm going to need to start saving! I want the full auto version though, that would be a blast to shoot.:D

I fired a full auto at Camp Perry last October. It IS a tank, weighing about 20 lbs. Better to try the thing on the ground with the bipod first time, because it does kick a$$ buit in a good way!

my dad carried one in wwII and he did nothing but ***** about it.he was the smallest guy in the company but had to carry the biggest gun.did say it was a blast to shoot though.

A fellow I knew long ago lost a finger due to one. If you asked him what happend he just said 'BAR accident' like you were supposed to know what that means.

I always figured they were like any other weapon: You just needed to know what you were doing before you fired it.

They sure are big, though, aren't they?

For a nice collection of WWII stuff go to...

www.barrandov.com

Click on 'costumes and props', then 'online catalog', then 'military vehicals'.

Their weapons selection is fun, too.

wonderful machine, not ony WWII; IIRC, Bonnie & Clyde met their fate by a few of these...

Yah, I geddit!!!

Wouldn't it be fun to hang one of those big heavy chinese gongs between two trees and then fire full auto at the thing? :D:D:D

No muzzle rise problems if you are prone, and using a bipod ---- either!!!!

The sport 30.06 BAR sold by Browning is essentially the same weapon without the box magazine, perhaps the best upland deer rifle I've ever used.

Semi-auto standard WWII assault rifle seems like kind of a waste me, given all the added extra weight.

The .300 Winchester Mag version is a truly awesome weapon, you could cut down a tree with one of the effin things. The ejection sounds like a cannon round being chucked out. If I was to choose the best possible Armageddon/Apoclypse-In-the-US rifle, it would be one of those. Excuse me, I have to go bury 10,000 rounds of .300 mag in my cellar.

I got to fire a real MP-40 a few weekends ago, made from actual Kruppstahl and all. That was an experience I never though I'd have!

when the great all american gun round up begins, ground penetrating radar
will pick up on those buried 10,000 rounds. New Orleans was but a small
glimpse into the future.........

and, for the record, I'm not in favor of what happened in New Orleans, I'm merely an observer of history and events.........

JollyRoger 02-16-2010 11:13 AM

Well, if NOLA is the future, I'm not worried, because the feds didn't show up.

They do weigh a ton, carrying the damn thing all over Europe would get old fast.

JollyRoger 02-16-2010 04:26 PM

It was a two man gun, one to carry the ammo and the other the gun, they spelled each other off. The German two man MP machine guns were far superior but they were hard to shot from the shoulder, which is where the BAR had the advantage.

t walgamuth 02-16-2010 10:40 PM

In the old TV show Combat, the fellow who carried the BAR was Big John...or Little John...IIRC.

My Dad the gun buff knew right away what it was.
