Canadian team reportedly hogging practice time on Olympic facilities

Apparently the US of A doesn't have the North American monopoly on boorishness.

Canadian luge team getting more practice time at Olympics.

Stephen Colbert had some bits on his show about Canadian athletes getting far more practice time at Olympic facilities than visiting teams. I can't find it now but I read a piece on the "Own the Podium" thing the Canadians wanted to pull off, with remarks about how a monopoly on the practice facilities was just too valuable to give up.

And yesterday, Canadian curling fans (normally genteel) behaved like European soccer fans or US NBA fans:

Wall of noise from Canadian fans for Danish curling team.

Oh yeah, but were really nice syrup sucking iceholes . The whole 'Own the Podium' thing hasn't quite worked out as our politicians first thought. Hopefully we can at least make the medal round in men's hockey, after the spanking we received last night by the team from south of us.

I'm mostly big on Canada. I've seen NBA fans in Seattle behave like a gang of the worst sort of blue collar thugs you can imagine. People are like that everywhere, sadly.

But the practice time thing on the luge course could have long term ramifications. Especially after the fatality.

I just heard on the news..... yes we own the podium but we're renting it out to the USA . That was a quote (tongue in cheek) from our gold medal sprinter Donovan Bailey.

I suppose there are worst things to be called than "Northern Mexicans" or "Gretzky Stealers."

Every host nation monopolizes the facilities prior to the games. Our home field advantage cost us about 6 billion dollars. Your country did it at Salt Lake City. The Italians did it at Torino. And on, and on, and on...
