Health care Summit

Well the much ballyhooed summit is over.
Post your comments.
One requirement.
You may not post if you are of the same opinion now as before.
Please post ONLY if you saw anything that made you rethink, or reconsider your prior opinion.

In accordance with that rule, I can't post.

This may be the shortest political thread in the history of OD.

Yea right. I'll comment irregardless of your self imposed moderation.

First off, I think Obama did a great job moderating the summit.

Secondly, I'm against scrapping the current work that's been done. The proposed step by step approach suggested by the Repo's is just another kill tactic by the Republicans to object, misinform, politicize, and stall any meaningful reform. I'm not falling for it.

Thirdly, while the current plan may not be ideal and doesn't address everyone's concerns, it's a step in the right direction. Nothing is written in stone that can't be modified in the future if necessary.

Lastly, there is a reason why both houses and the Presidency is in democrats hands. They have a large majority in both houses because that's what the people wanted. I would like to see an bi-partisan plan negotiated, but it's doubtfull that's possible in the near or distant future.

If the Majority party has the power to pass this plan by reconciliation, then so be it. It's time to both humble and humiliate the republicans and put them in their place as the minority party.

I have been challenging the dems to pass their Bill with no repub support for a year, now.

More posturing by our boneheaded, 10% approval rate Congress and doofus President. They all suck; I'm looking forward to November.

No matter what my opinion, including the Toyota hearings and the finance hearings

I am ashamed of our representation.

Lets take Bobby Rush from my home state, HUH.
Another today geesh the guy was about the level of a 5th grader.
Then some asking questions, rude, meaningless, yes or no to a non answerable question ....

If a company brought these people in to sell you something you wouldn't take their product if they paid you.

I am ashamed, how do these people get elected ???

Well, since this has turned into a free for all. I think it was just another obama rerun of his party trying to take over healthcare. He looked tired and drawn according to one reporter, and unwilling to compromise on anything. He basically lost this bout with the republicans that he doesn't need their vote to pass anyway.

Instead of focusing on getting Americans back to work, obama derides any opposition to his bill. He has spent 90% of his party's airtime to 10% republican airtime, on something that 70% of the country does not want.

It was just more political posturing by him today, from every report I heard.

So, no, it changes my mind and America's mind not one iota, regardless (irregardless for those in Rio Linda) of the minority's outcry for free healthcare. Which is an oxymoron.

The electorate that voted in all those folks heading back to the polls . . . now, wasn't one definition of insanity . . . doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?

I used to think that the government shouldn't be doing 95% of the things it does now. That number rose to like 97%, and then it got me thinking the USPS isn't that great either so like 99.9587%.

Hear Hear. Let go back to the directions for the presidency, senate and the congress. SUPPORT ENUMERATED POWERS. If it is not in the CONSTITUTION (as amended) then the elected people have no right to do it.

I'm with you. I think we would get along just fine with the following departments eliminated:

Homeland Security (Most functions of which rightly belong to Defense, or to state and local agencies)

Education (All functions of which belong to state and local agencies)

Energy (with the National Nuclear Security Administration reorganized under Defense)

Housing and Uban Development (This one just needs to die.)

Health and Human Services (With CDC and FDA transfered to Commerce)

Labor (Again, usurping the functions of state and local agencies)

That's not to mention all the smaller offices and programs I'd like to see eliminated in the surviving departments.

I'm sure many of you have heard about one of Canada's Ministers coming to the USA to have his heart surgery done. This should speak volumes about the benefits of socialized medicine if you are willing to listen, but if it is not trumpeted by the mainstream media most won't hear. I listened to a portion of the summit on the radio and to me it sounded as if they were just going through the motions to say an effort at a bipartisan agreement had been attempted, but failed, so now we are going to ram this monstrosity down your throat and to hell with the will of the people. God help us all.
