What radio programs do you listen to?

I just read the thread about the dumbing down of most of the television news programs with a lot of interest since I work in that field.

But now I'm curious to know what people listen to on the radio for news and talk radio and also for music.

I've had XM radio in my car since before they reached their millionth listener. For the most part I listen to newstalk and split my time between FOX news and "America-Right" for conservative news commentary.

But I found in the last year that my blood would begin to boil the more I listened because of all the cr@p going on in this country. That was until I found Bill Bennett's radio program to listen to in the morning on my way into DC. Bill has a way of presenting the issues with a homey sense very much like a "father figure". Add in a lot of philosophy and you've got his program. I love it!

I don't for the most part. My car stereo plays MP3's. Since the first year the radios did the all X-mass music all day for a month before X-mass I burned a CD and rarely turn the tuner on. I now have one of those FM radio frequency things that plays my MP3's over a dead radio station from a flash drive. Easier to transfer files than to burn them.

I listen to the songs I want when I want. No talking, no commercials and no songs I don't like.

I listen to NPR; Car Talk, This American Life, the puzzle show (forgot the name) or is it on APR? Don't recall. Oh yeah and Garrison Keillor.

Anyhow, I gave up on conservative talk radio, it's too mind-dumbing - I mean numbing.

Wish I had satellite. Maybe when I get a car next winter. Porsche 911 C4.

NPR for news

Local Classical Station

"Sunday Night Diner" oldies program but they are for the most part about 5 years too old for my liking. Many are from the early and mid fifties and I have more of a liking for late fifties to early sixties.

Classic and Hard Rock.

WVO...

Did you know WRR was originaly set up to be the Police and Fire unit radio station in Dallas? I think it is the last city owned station in the US.

I like NPR myself. I never listen to Conserative radio because I already know what they are going to say. It reminds me of listining to Lord Haw-Haw. Yes, I am old.

I also like any station that plays Bob Wills.

I guess I forgot to mention that I also often enjoy classic jazz, classic rock, the XM station that plays movie music, and another that plays singer/songwriter unplugged music. Great options!!

I'm not a regular listener, but I do stockpile podcasts of "Car Talk" "This American Life" and a couple weeks worth of "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" for when I'm up in the air.

Talk radio - not news. Some sports talk radio for a diversion. No public, state controlled radio - ever.

Hard rock, metal, classic rock, bluegrass, and old country. Real country doesn't have drums.
For talk, I used to listen to BJ Shea on KISW, but since I moved I can only listen occasionally when I'm at home on the computer.
When I'm on here, I usually have kisw.com playing.

I guess that rules out any FCC regulated stations.

Is that bad?

I listen to Canadian AM stations and to some NPR. The branch from Detroit always slips in little pro-Kwame remarks (he's the mayor who stole the 9 million for hush money, pled guilty with a deal and is living in Texas in a gated community on probation, not paying back the million he was ordered to pay). So I listen to the NPR from the People's Republic of Ann Arbor, or local classical and ethnic stations (to pick up new recipes ).

I've only got a 6 mile drive one way to work - not enough time to even put on a decent CD.

Besdies, the way they drive here in SA, it's best to keep ALL your attention on driving!!!

Alex Jones! But I don't have a good short-wave so it's only on the internet.
