2009 firearms sales!

http://www.ammoland.com/2010/01/13/gun-owners-buy-14-million-plus-guns-in-2009/

Washington, DC --(AmmoLand.com)- Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for the year reported 14,033,824 NICS Checks for the year of 2009, a 10 percent increase in gun purchases from the 12,709,023 reported in 2008.

So far that is roughly 14,000,000+ guns bought last year!
The total is probably more as many NICS background checks cover the purchase of more than one gun at a time by individuals.

To put it in perspective that is more guns than the combined active armies of the top 21 countries in the world. countries by number of troops

Of the NICS background checks preformed less than and average .005% were denied, showing, overwhelmingly, that law abiding American citizens are the ones buying guns and that criminals are getting their guns elsewhere.

14,033,824,000 billions rounds of Ammo
Assuming each gun buyer bought 1000 rounds of ammo for each purchase, and you and I know that it is way, way more than that, that would be easily 14,033,824,000+ billions rounds of ammo fired by USA gun owners.

What percent of people were killed or injured by this ammo…it is just to infinitesimally small for me to calculate?

Crime At Record Lows
This record year in firearms background checks show that Americans are solidly in-favor of exercising their civil right to Keep and Bear Arms.

In a year were crime has reached an all time record low what is plainly clear is that more guns equal LESS CRIME!

This is an evaluation of overall firearms and ammunition purchases based on low end numbers per Federal NIC instacheck data base Statistics. The numbers presented are only PART of the overall numbers of arms and ammunition that have been sold.

The actual numbers are much higher.

At this point were the most well armed nation on earth by a huge margin! Hopefully this year we can up the sales another 10%.

Well, at least most people who bought guns this year that I know bought US made guns It seems a stretch to say that's why crime is at a low though.

I'm reading the PRC bought 2,255,000 vs 1,473,900 here in the USA.
Is the PRC that more free than us?

Australia doesnt get a mention. We have some of the toughest gun restrictions on the planet! About the time they banned many types of guns, there was a lot of guns that went missing.

Doubtful. % of population has to be taken into account and also how many guns are already in circulation.

I'm waiting for people to realize that they need the cash more than they need the gun they just bought.

This has all the apperance of a bubble. When it pops guns will be cheap, just like they were after WW II.

I passed up a Colt Python for $150 a few months ago. Never fired and in the box. The guy needed cash, but I have never found the Python to be to my likeing.

Perhaps Pooka, you might not have any taste? The python is one of the finest revolvers I've fired. (And thats out of a massive number of handguns. This isn't a bubble, it's a steep escelation in the price of weapons and ammunition that's going to be fairly permanent. Remember the stuped assed "assault weapons" ban from ole' Bubba's era?

Americans need to fight to protect their second ammendment rights.

Those are troop manning levels. Civilian sales of firearms in the U.S. were about 14 million last year. I don't think private ownership of firearms in PRC is allowed.

I don't think so either, which is why I made such a post.

Its already burst, prices on just about everything are way down. Except K98's which just surged about 100%. For example last year a Colt 6920 would have set you back at least $1,800, now their down to $1,200-$1,300.

Ammo is currently whats crashing. Quality US made brass cased 5.56 is down to about .36 cents a round from .55 last year. Its still dropping like a rock.

You could have flipped the Python and purchased pretty much any other production handgun in the world that is to your liking without bringing any additional cash. Python is considered by many to be the finest production revolver EVER made.

And many states do not require checks/transfer for in state sales, like here. One of the guns I bought last year got recorded, since it had to be shipped. None of the rest were.
