Georgia Considers Outlawing Abortions Based on Race, Gender

End run around abortion rights?

Seems like a end run too me. I hope it does not pass and if for what ever reason it does, I hope the courts strike it down.

More poor people than rich people seek abortions. Blacks are on average poorer than whites therefore there will be more black abortions than white. If I were to offer a conspiracy theory it would be that the biggest motivation behind anti-abortion is that it reduces the labor pool.

Bart Stupak seems to be offering a similar conspiracy theory:

What are Democratic leaders saying? “If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That’s one of the arguments I’ve been hearing,” Stupak says. “Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue — come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we’re talking about.” http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MzU0MDYxMWEyOTdiNGU1OGU3ZjYzYmE3Y2ZlZDQ5NTY=

If the bill passes, providers cannot solicit, perform or accept funding for abortions they know are prompted by the baby's race or gender. Providers who are found guilty each would face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000. Pregnant women would not be held liable.

How can a provider "know" what is in the mind of a person seeking an abortion?

Who can claim that the provider "knew" something and bring him to justice for "knowing"?

It's another example of a legislature pandering, yet again.........wasting time on useless BS instead of doing the work that they were elected to do.

Sounds very familiar..............

Next thing you know, the right wing nutjobs will be attempting to outlaw abortions on the grounds that more women have them than men.

Best response I've heard on the whole issue was by Christine Whitman, former NJ governor and EPA admin under GW - "What a woman decides to do with her body and child should be between her, her family, her doctor, and her pastor - period".

And for making that statement, some in her own state party (R's) tried to run her out of office.

My own position is that I don't usually discuss it - my feeling is that the only people who should be allowed to voice an opinion on this are the ones that actually bear children - women.

As far as Bart Stupak's amendment in the HC bill prohibiting federal funds from being used for abortions - I'd agree with it solely from the standpoint that the government should COMPLETELY keep it's nose out of this issue.

Abortion is one of those issues where both sides are completely right and completely wrong at the same time.

The way I look at it is, if Democrats want to kill their offspring, that's fine with me....

Totally disagree. IF she wants to consult somebody, go to the bathroom and look in the mirror. If she cannot decide it by herself, perhaps she should become a ward of the state.

You are surprised? The pro-life lobby pays a large part of the Rep tab. So yes, as a Rep, you are endangering my livelihood. Think the Dems will be any better when their sacred cows are being touched? I think not. They might be a lot smoother about it but people are still people.

That I can go along with.

I agree with your point but one more mouth to feed means more money down the road so I am kinda torn about that.

Agreed that SHE has the final word and has to make the call herself, but for all practical purposes you know that the other people listed are going to be involved in some way or another - at least the attending physician for obvious reasons.

One track mind.

In the link was a billboard talking about too many black babies being aborted. Who knows. Anecdotally, when I drove cab in Oakland I encountered numerous black crack-hos who spoke of their 3, 4, or 5 kids being raised somewhere, by someone.
