Life, Lessons, and orange smoothes

It is time I come clean. I've been hiding this and have been feeling guilty about it.

Ever since I can remember I have been directionally challenged. That is remembering left from right. And then the next problem was righty tighty lefty loosey.
I finally figured those two out. You would think after all of these years of theoretical math and thinking about abstract ideas that I would grasp such basic things.

Well I am coming clean. I did my first valve adjustment today... well I started yesterday and I finished today. How can I make such a simple job an absolutely miserable experience?

Getting everything off was easy. Disassembling the throttle linkages, cleaning them, and then finally removing the cover off. I jumped into the fray with my two new bent 14mm wrenches!

Soon into the endeavor, I ended up posting a thread in the diesel discussion forum about my valve adjusting woes. On the 2nd cylinder intake valve the nut was malformed. I chalked it up to a stupid previous owner or mechanic.

It was me.

In my attempt to figure out the locking nut I tried forcing the nut counter clockwis, to loosen it! This obviously tightened it and malformed it.

I also incorrectly adjusted the valves too loosely on the first exhaust and intake. Eventually after some more theoretical thinking on how the locking nut come down and the adjusting nut goes up. I finally figured out how to do it.

As per the thread in the DD forum, I ended up getting all of the valves adjust, except the 2 cylinder's intake which is set at .15mm. I spent 4 hours on that valve. Eventually Mr. Dremel worked his magic and I was able to band aid the bolt enough to tighten it.

The end result being a smoother idle and an instant start when I hit the key.

I felt guilty about what I did and I needed to come clean to everyone who helps me here. I suck at telling white lies even over the internet.

The orange smoothie is my reward at 12:48 for taking Benzy on a test ride through town.

Edit: Please forgive me poor spelling in the title. It never was a strong point in my schooling.

My room mate came home with me for the entire week since he is from Hawaii. Kilua as a matter of fact.

He helped me get the valve cover back on.

But yeah we took the shots of tequila straight. Why ruin a good smoothie?

It could have been worse, you could have had an old Chrysler with a flat tire...Some '62-'70 Mopar cars were equipped with lugnuts that were RH on one side of the car and LH on the other.
