Hello My name is Tom and I am an ebay deadbeat

I used my wife's ebay account a week or so ago to bid on a tranny for my Miata. I forgot all about it and she did not think to let me know when she started getting emails about it. I just happened to mention something related today and she said...oh yeah, you have a whole bunch of emails about ebay.

Doh!

So I deadbeated as of yesterday on this tranny. Unfortunately I bought one from a salvage yard on Saturday and really can't use another one.

So I contacted the seller and asked what I could do to make it up to him short of buying a tranny I don't need. I asked him if he had any other Miata parts for sale. (He will probably think...RIGHT!)

Man you're really beating the snot out of that Miata! Guess they aren't as bulletproof as I thought. I guess autocross does put a lot of stress on a car though.

Your wife doesn't check her emails more than once a week? Sheesh. Nice of you to want to make it up to the guy. I'd paypal him the listing fees.

Hello, Deadbeat Tom! I think you should change your name on these boards. It has a nice ring to it.

I have done that before, bought something I didn't want. I just sent the lister the listing fee's and it was fine. Sometimes they were cool and didn't even want them.

My feedback is still 100%.

Listing fees seems like a good idea Mr. Deadbeat. Alzheimer's?

The seller pays two different kinds of fees to eBay.

One kind is "insertion fees", which are what he paid to list the item. Those are what you might offer to pay to help make up for being a deadbeat and wasting the seller's time.

The other kind is a "final value fee" which was added to the seller's account after the sale was made. There are two ways the seller might go to have his FVF refunded:

1. Request a "mutual cancellation" of the transaction through eBay. If you were to respond appropriately to the request sent through the eBay system, then the seller would have his FVF refunded.

2. Open an "unpaid item dispute". That wouldn't require a response from you; if you were to ignore it, then the dispute would eventually be closed in his favor, and he would have his FVF refunded.

It's impossible for a seller to leave negative or neutral feedback for a buyer - and it's been that way for a while (since mid-May 2008?). It's positive or no feedback at all.

Well, the car has about 120K on it. It has seen a lot of autocross i suspect before I got it. It is now on its third motor, but the tranny has lost fifth gear sort of and in autocross you seldom get past second.

It does have as far as I know its original half shafts and diff though.

After looking at the black gook in the motor that was in it when I bought it it clearly was not taken care of by PO's.

They are assuredly rugged little cars. I watch them at event after event. there are usually eight or ten and most people just rev them up to about 4K rpm and dump the clutch leaving two streaks of rubber, and I have never seen one break at an event yet.

Perhaps the trannies are the weak link. The engines are rugged but seem to lose their edge a little sooner than I would like.

In tearing mine down for the rebuild I was impressed to find oil squirters under the piston like the turbo benzes and a beautiful forged and chrome looking crank which looked a whole lot like a four cylinder version of a Ferrari 250 crank.

You don't race your car.

Racing is a whole different world. On my uncles track car you need to tighten every nut and bolt constantly. Loctite does jack, they still back out.

You can never simulate racing use on the street.

Its probably a oil starvation thing during tight corners. If it had black goop someone didn't change the oil enough

The seller could get his final value fee refunded (by eBay; not paid by you) by either of the two methods I mentioned.

As far as listing fees are concerned, that's something that the seller could more easily tell you.
