Present and accounted for, in some utterly undefined state. 2 hours sleep in the last 72. Body says "WOOP! WOOOOOP! WOOP! Shutdown! Shutdown! Shutdown!" Brain says "but there's this, and this, and that, and these things, and what about this, and we gotta, and and and and and and and and and..."

Darling Wife is snoozing on the couch. Chickie is keeping the goons quiet. Ed is pacing the floors, offering me pistachios and trying to find something to talk about. So we go to the 84 Ranger sitting in the barn, a possible replacement for the TOTALLY shoulda been dead years ago Corolla he's "driving." If you count going 3 miles and stopping to add coolant driving.

The Ranger - so much baggage. Ed bought the Ranger, had it painted Ma's favorite color, put kewl wheels on it, and surprised Ma with it years and years and years ago. Like pretty much everything else in Ma and Ed's world, it was neglected, it broke, and it sat. For the last four years.

Says Ed: it only needs a new distributor (editorial sidebar: according to Ed, the 85 Buick, 92 Cadillac, and 80 something Corvette he owns, stashed unregistered and uninsured in various places around Baltimore, all "only need a new distributor"). Says Darling Wife: that f'n truck was impossible to stop 10 years ago, died every time you turned left, and won't idle at less than 1500 RPM (great for the auto tranny it has). Says me, after 12.4 minutes of poking around under the hood this afternoon: front reservoir of the master cylinder is bone dry; multiple vacuum lines are dangling, some with screws in 'em, others open; PCV valve is sitting pretty close to (but not in) the hole it's supposed to be inserted into, and the number of devices that are hanging from their wires/vacuum lines/fuel hoses/etc rather than bolted to the engine bay is positively mind blowing.

There is a hypothesis floating around which posits that we will need to be providing Ed a level of support not unlike that which we gave Ma over the past 17 months. I'm afraid that hypothesis has merit.
