A question?

What's the deal with them extra smart kids on the Welche's grape jelly commercials. Are they extra smart little kids or are they really older than they look. They are way too well spoken to be that young. You guys tell me.

They're reading a script to make mom and dad lots of money, and if they screw up, they get their hides tanned.

Seriously, I have been watching these commercials for years, I think there is more behind this. :D

I don't think I've ever seen one, is there a link?

Pretty clever, put an adult message in a little kids mouth with a cute delivery. It's difficult to ignore.

I can tell you EXACTLY how these are made.

Through the miracle of EDITING!

Step 1: Videotape the kid saying this stuff several times in a row, but sentence by sentence.

Step 2: Edit the best version of each sentence

Step 3: To avoid seeing the big "jump cuts" keep cutting back to the kid form a different angle, or cut back and forth between the product and the "talking head"

Estimate: 45 minutes with the kid, one hour edit. At max costs for talent and studio time, the commercial is made for less than 3,000.

But you charge 200 grand for it.

The miracle of advertising.

BTW, the kid makes 35.00 each time the ad is shown on national TV. So he'll have to do a lot of ads to pay for college.

On the other hand, the ad exec makes 20,000 off the top....

If the ad exec is smart, he sends the family a bunch of free Welch's products like jelly for PB&J, which he gets free from the company and sends them via the mail room of the ad agency, so he doen't pay costs.

That's how it works in advertising.

That little kid has spent the previous few weeks practicing those lines till it hurts, a form of child abuse. A bit like teaching a pet tricks. They know they will get taken to Maccas if they do well at the recording. Chances are the kid doesnt even understand what they are saying.

Theses commercials have been on the air for over 25 years, explain that.

There are lots of parents out there who are prepared to do that to their kids. a bit like the beauty contests for little kids.

My elementry school english teacher made me memorize the General Prologue from The Canterbury Tales in middle-english, I survived.

For score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this contininent...

Probably one of the most pointless school assignments of my life. Memorize the Gettysburg address. Granted it does impress a lot of people when they need a mic check :P

"In days of old, when Knights were bold and .............."

Or "The time has come, the walrus said for us to .......................... and cabbages and kings"
See how good your memory is.

Take pity on those kids remembering their grape juice lines 50 years on !!!!
