ebay question

I just found a set of seats for my miata on ebay which I want to buy. I want to pick them up. Can i do a buy it now and not purchase the delivery?

It depends on how the seller set up the auction. Best bet is to contact the seller and ask him about your intentions.

as long as you intend to pay for the item, I imagine the seller will accommodate you.

sometimes people hike up the shipping though, and expect to receive it regardless.

Email the seller right away, or look at the auction itself to see if the seller offers "local pickup" as a shipping option. If the seller is leery about a buyer coming to his home, you could offer to meet at a mutually agreeable location.

Thanks! This gives me some things to think about.

Yes, you need to ask the seller first. There are some scammers out there. Remember the motor cycle helmut a few months back. Basically, if you pick it up, the seller has no record of delivering it. So can be weary of that.

Might want to set yourself a reminder about bidding . . .

The seats are exactly what I have been looking for. I have been beat out on other seats at least three times so I went ahead and did a buy it now and sent him a message offering to pick it up if he would give a reasonable credit.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I went through a round of this BS with one real DB in Connecticut. He wanted $40 to ship the wheels but was going to do me a favor and allow me to pick them up for $20.

Well, I wasn't giving him $20 for the privilege of picking them up. We settled on $10, but not without some heated and nasty exchanges. The wheels were garbage anyway...........two of them went right into the dumpster.

I did find out, however, that the seller sets the rules...........he can demand any fee he wants...........or flat out refuse to allow pickup. You don't have any options other than to threaten him with no sale and take the feedback hit.

I won't fuss over it. If he won't make it worthwhile he can go to the trouble to put them on a skid and ship them. That's a lot of bother. A nice pair of Miata seats of the right color and year are hard hard hard to find.;)

Take note: There is no "feedback hit" for a buyer on eBay now. Positive feedback is the only sort of feedback that a seller is allowed to leave for a buyer.

You can still get penalized for not paying for an item. It's gonna take more than one item you don't pay for to actually count against you though.

I have not heard anything from this seller as yet. I just emailed him for information and the email address appears not to be good that I got from paypal for the seller.

Is there a time limit for the seller to respond? The ad says it will ship the seats in five days, I believe.

Anything to worry about yet?

Did you buy them?

t walgamuth 04-08-2010 06:00 AM

yes.
