Dream deal on a 95 E320 wagon? $650?

Craigslist, local. I dont think its a scam, but it looks to be a super nice looking 95 E320 wagon. Owner said he thinks the headgasket is blown, not trustworthy and selling it as a parts car for $650! If I had the room this would be in my driveway. Black on black wagon!!

I bought the car in my sig for around $1000 with a head gasket issue as well. I would jump on that like hot cakes. You know what a typical MB shop will charge for a HG and all related jobs that should be done along with that? In the $5,000 range is what they told the poor old lady I bought my car from. HA!

But since it's a 95, it could also have wiring harness issues as well.

Thanks John... yeah it looks too good to be true. I think I could find someone to do the HG for around $1500 (a friend who would do the labor for very little)... they could do the engine harness at the same time, but gosh, I have FOUR cars, not to mention my moms two cars here and my dads car and truck. 8 vehicles. Hopefully someone else that is a MB fan can grab this car and give it some TLC. If I hadnt of just gave my mom my 88 LWB W126, this would be the perfect car for her.

It's too nice to part out, it is the last year for these, last year of the uber reliable W124 E class, it has new good Firestoe tires, mileage is not high at 181k, and it has the best possible paint and interior colors, has the desirable third seat and would look VERY slick, when cleaned up.

For $650 for all of that I think it is worth it to buy and repair.

I'd do it quickly and NOT try to beat the guy down a miserable $50-$100 bucks on his price. (Though CL is notorious for bottom feeders and cheapskates...)

He thinks the HG is blown. Very convenient for him, isn't it? Blown HG means I can't tell if your valves are leaking or the HG is blown.

Does the cylinder hold pressure? IOW are the rings shot or does the piston have a hole in it?

Correct, but the price is right - you could get $300 for the 3rd seat.

Head and bottom end problems are very rare on these cars. Its almost always the head gasket.

If it were local I would have already bought it.

I just emailed him, I happen to have two M104s sitting around. One needs rings the other is unknown but between 3 motors and a headgasket set I bet I could make it run.

My friend Bob just emailed him and said he would take it for asking price.

Well, I am glad a MB person got it. I just dont have the time or room for it.... but I would have loved to own it. It was on our local Craigs, but it wasnt really that close.... well, it was about 45-50 miles away.

Hope it makes someone a good car!
