Waterproof tape? Any other ideas?

Is there a tape that would not allow water to seep underneath it? I want to strip off a section on a project I have going, but cannot allow the paint stripper to seep under.

Anybody know of a type of tape that would work? Or I am open to other ideas on how to achieve this?

Thanks!

You'd be better off using rubber tape and a sandblaster. I don't know of any type of adhesive that will withstand paint stripper, especially since it will eat the paint and just work underneath it anyways.

Big difference between using water vs. using paint stripper. Duct tape would work fine with water, but I doubt it would work with paint stripper. The adhesive would probably dissolve.

Aluminum foil tape *might* work. Depends on the stripper used.

This sounds like a better solution, although it might still seep under. Still better than other tape solutions.

What about making a bead around it using gasket sealer or something? Something a little inventive that could be removed once I have finished stripping it. Am I crazy?

freehand the stripper. I don't think any tape will stop it from creeping.

Also you have to take into consideration that eventually you want to take the tape off, without damaging anything.

Now I don't know how it would work with paint stripper (I suppose it depends on what the base of it is), but Frog Tape will keep latex/water-based products from bleeding.
