"Aviator" Sunglasses

Anyone tried these? Picked up a pair (ray-ban non polarized) because I was tired of my cheapie POS's breaking all the time and I've heard good things about these. They've got to be the worst sunglasses I've tried. Sure they look cool but there's so much light that gets into your eyes from the sides (around my temples) and causes glare. Are you supposed to get them adjusted or something? They're not sliding off my nose or anything.

I always wear them. Used to have a really nice pair from the seventies; those were heavy. Dropped them between the car seat, not knowing I pushed the chair back; it sounded like a window being smashed, that's how thick the glass was.
Now I wear lighter modern ones. The weird thing about large aviators is that heat builds up behind the glasses on a hot day.

Never been too much of a fan for that exact reason; if the purpose is to shield my eyes, I want side coverage too.

I personally wear M Frames, but they look wicked amounts of goofy on the wrong face (which is any face).

Full coverage though.

So Jorn, any comments? Is that normal for that type of sunglasses? I kept reading about how they were designed to reduce glare etc etc but if the sun gets through the side of the lense, game over man! game over! I just find it odd I can't find any record in the history of the internets of other complaints..

though Solid Snake concurs (I played through MGS4 on PS3 without having played any of the other games... what a WEIRD game.. fun though.)

Yes they give some glare and reflections when the sun comes from the side, I've got used to it over time. Sometimes it can be even painful when the sun hits the glass straight from behind and reflects back in the eye. With the newer ones it's not that bad, maybe it had something to do with the coating being damaged on my older ones. I've have to learn to put shades in a case when I don't wear them...

Been wearing fishing glasses for years. The only drawback is the somewhat Wayfarer style frames in the way of side-peripheral vision. They take any glare away and are priceless for that reason. $20.00 bucks or so available at Academy. I've owned one pair I use only for driving for going on 15 years. Comfortable too!

And... does your opinion coincide with mine

FWIW i got the silver frame, silver reflective lenses. Gradient is green (i usually go for brown). I like their old school feel but I guess like most things, modern is usually functionally better. Hm. Ah well. I'll still wear em.

While not exactly Aviator glasses, they are somewhat similar, this is what I wear. Prescription and polarized. I've been very pleased with them and glare hasn't been a problem. Maybe because the sides are thicker?

Sun damage aside, why anyone would want to squint all the time while outside is beyond me.
