Question on an exterior hood vent...

How do you install one with vinyl siding? I was told you just cut the siding, silicone the heck out of the back of it and screw it on.

If you want it to leak do it that way Hatty, around here they usually use a vinyl collar around the duct and then detail it with drip edge top and bottom and then j bead the vertical edges. Of course thats in new construction. You can strip off enough vinyl siding to expose the area of the penetration and then detail it as above. Check online, I'm sure there's a drawing of that detail.
