Toyota Echo head on accident

The little car did really well. The windshield did not break and the doors still opened. Car design has really come a long way. Not sure how fast it was going though but I am very impressed.

A late model Camry hit it.

Right by Dentfield road....:

Maybe the damage can be "Buffed Right Out"....

I cannot help but wonder why people buy those miserable little sardine cans, when I see them in junkyards hunting for Mercedes Benz parts.

The insurance companies send the totalled ones there, it is scary, often times they still have the vics blood inside them everywhere...

Imagine yourself in traction in a hospital bed, gloating about all the fuel you saved by driving one of them?

Was it worth it, Skippy????

X2

Every time I see someone going by in a “Smart Car”, I think of how quick I’d give up that extra ~1.5 mpg and put me and 4 friends into a TDI Jetta or the like and actually have a good time going down the road at 70 mph.

To me: Nothing too “Smart” about them.

Not to mention all the bandage and gauze pad wrappers left behind by the Paramedics.

And, I can't tell you how much hair I've seen hanging from broken windshields.

One side note:

Both directions of the road are shut down.
It’s a hard surface and we’re on 10” wheels.

But who cares ?!?!
Let’s put this 5000 lb ship down over here in the soft dirt so we can blow it everywhere when we leave.

At CareFlight and/or Guardian Air, we'd have got a nasty-gram from the fire chief for that one.

So then suggest you him, "Go pound sand, and then go watch some more "American Idol" on the station house on TV".

(which risks the response from him : "You come to our Fireman's ball, and we'll come to your FIRE !!!!" )

LOL

That would actually be a bit of the pot calling the kettle black.

We always had critiques of every “mission” from most everyone involved.
99.9% of them were the same ABC thing:

A. Police didn’t keep the crowds back far enough for the fire/rescue crew.
B. Fire rescue crew either had too much equipment/crew responding, or were too few and too late to help the police with the crowd.
And C. The helicopter blew crap everywhere. (and I mean everywhere)

Nope….
But I’m pretty good at tagging along behind golf carts with signs that say: Follow Me.

If MTP was 1200’ longer, I’d show ya !!

I have... many times. One of my best friends is the stout, steel bumper on the SD... helps make that spot just a little bit bigger, especially if it's moving a Smart car.

Clearly you've never viewed the parallel parking instructional video put out by the NYC Parking Authority: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIXYtYHA958

don't knock it till you've tried it.

Every car has its element, My SD is not fast or powerful, but I dare anyone to fallow me on some of the mountain roads I drive, the car is in its element. Likewise the Smart has its element also.

My mom drives a Smart car. I drove it the last time I was in San Antonio with her. She doesn't like driving in traffic (this has nothing to do with the car, from 1989-1996 she drove a F350 crew cab with a 7.3L Diesel... back before big diesel trucks were cool. She didn't like traffic back then ether) So I drove her Smart downtown so we could see the Alamo and the river walk.

Leaving the river walk we hit bad traffic (who would have thought when George Strait plays the Alamo Dome there would be traffic) while in traffic a train came through downtown. Just like in Sacramento the train literally cuts down town in half while it goes by. we were waiting at the tracks for about 10 min when the rest of the traffic started to turn onto a side street. Foolishly I fallowed the traffic, being from out of town I thought maybe there was another way around. the side street was a 2 way street, but to small to have a dividing line, more like a 1.5 lane street. we ended up behind a bus. there was no way the bus was going to make the second turn with then heavy traffic. so I told my mom to hold on. I took the little smart car and was able to pop a U turn in the 1.5 lane street. and fit down the street with all the people in large cars and truck on the other side of the street. (they used 1 lane I only needed the .5 lane ) once I got back on the street I was on originally the rear end of the train had just gone by and I went over the tracks. looking in the rear view you could see people in trucks making 5 point turns trying to fallow me out of the mess of traffic. The Smart car was 100% in its element. It was quite a funny situation, my mom and I laughed about it all the way home.

I've driven both a Jetta TDI and a Smart, and while I really like the Jetta the Smart did drive more like my SD... Don't ask me how they did it, but the road feel, the weight of the steering, all felt like a proper Mercedes auto.

Picture taken from behind the wheel of the Smart.
